Ace catches the bone easily and observes it as he describes how the system works. "Huh, that is kinda cool." She said with a nod. He told her then that he had learned it from yet another study of his own. He seems to have studied quite a shit load.
As Ace hadn't ever been to britain, so hadn't a clue whether or not he was spouting bullshit. She assumed against her better judgement that he was saying at least some level of truth.
"Did you hear me though? I asked you a question..." She said in a brash tone. "You're avoiding it, so what am I meant to think? You either didn't hear me or it's something you don't want to say. You seem to have pretty good hearing the rest of the time, so... "
She sighed, obviously a little frustrated at him not telling her, "Right, Lets simplify this. Firstly, do you have control of it, and Secondly, If you don't, could it hurt me. Simple questions I think I have a right to know, considering we're living in the same dorm." She crossed her arms and furrowed her eyebrows in his direction.

Jacob bit his lip and stared out over the ocean, while his and flicked the knife open and closed, a particularly ominous nervous tic.
"I do not have control of my power, but as the condition for its activation is medical death, it is rather easy to prevent accidental use." he says, voice flat. "Unfortunately, it is also invariably lethal. If it activates with you nearby, I have little doubt you woud perish."
The knife flips closed again, and he pockets it abruptly. "My apologies for not explaining earlier, but it is a rather troubling subject for me and I prefer to avoid it whenever possible."

Ace blinked at this information. She let there be silence for a moment so she might mull it over. "So... It's basically a case of, you die, I die?... Do you explode or something?" She asked, her voice a lot less brash now, her eyebrow raised a little more playfully. "Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it... wait.." Her mind started ticking again. "How do you even know about it then? Did somebody tell you about it?..."
She figured she might as well say something to level the field, "That's how I found out. Someone else had the power to tell what powers were nearby... I have something called 'probability manipulation', which basically means I can win bets." She said. She let out a small laugh, feeling the tense air around them, "I just always figured it was just being in the right place at the right time... but Will always figured since we'd met that I had somethin'." She said with a half-grin, looking at the sand, thinking about everything.
She looked up again to him, "Dude, trust me, I know what that's like... Just, well... Curiosity and..." She paused for a long while, "sorry." She added barely above a whisper.

"I know about it because I died." Jacob replied, tone still very even. "Three times, so far. Every time someone else has perished. I do not know the mechanics or the cause or the reason for having such a worthless talent, but if I had any choice I would remove it. As I do not - I am here to find a way to strip it from me."
A pause, as Jacob closed his eyes and took a deep breath, calming himself down.
"Your power sounds remarkably useful." he said eventually, reopening his eyes. "How many times have you won a lottery with it, if I may ask? Or have you yet?"

What he said caused Ace to look up towards him once again, and her expression flattened. "Wow..." She said finally. "So... " Her mind was pulling his power together into what it actually was. She still figured he himself would simply come back to life in the same body. She hadn't any particular reason to think otherwise.
She decided not to ask what it was like, to die. She didn't want to know. She allowed the pause, watching with a hint of concern as he closed his eyes and took the breath. She waited for him to say the next part, and go back to regular conversation.
"I haven't. I mean, my power is never 100% accurate. The highest I can get is in the 90s, and the lottery..." She paused. "I've only tried once or twice. Though, I've done pretty well in casinos." She gave half of a smile, hoping that the conversation might make the mood a little less dark, well, as long as he didn't ask her what she had needed to gamble for.
She didn't mention any more about his power.

Jacob gave a wry smile and stood up to stretch. "So, essentially, I should never play rock-paper-scissors with you." he translates. "Noted. I'll have to go with something else, like running faster than you to whatever we're trying to decide over."
He walked over to the edge of the water and ducked to wash his hands off in the cool ocean, removing the fish blood on his hands. He glanced at the fish, shrugged, and ambled back up to Ace instead, where he offered a hand down to her. "C'mon. You said no fish gutting in the kitchen, so let's leave it here for the crabs. Give and take a little, don't you know."
There's a little crook at the corner of his mouth, an amused twist, and though he hasn't said the words proper, he's still offering a hand to Ace.

Ace laughed after his comment, "I'd surprise you I think! I bet I could beat you at a race..." She said, her half-grin stretching. "But yeah, paper rock sissors, haven't lost a game." She said with a grin.
She looked at Muffin Jack a little surprised when he said he wanted to leave the Tuna. "All that good fish and you're leaving it for the crabs? I suppose one did sacrifice for the catch, but still..." She looked over to the dead fish, and it's bulky size.
Ace hardly noticed him having walked over to her with that smile, until he offered the hand. She paused for a noticeable second or two. After this she hesitantly took his hand to help her off the sand, the skin of her palm cold and slightly rough, sand still between her fingers. She pulled her hand back once she was at a stand and turned away as she began walking back.
A few moments later a smirk grew on her face. "So where you going next eh? I'm heading back to watch TV. You can do what you want." She turned back towards him, "What's for dinner anyways Chef?" She asked with a tilt of her head.

"Forgive me, but aside from not having the proper facilities to scale a fish of that size, I am uninterested in discovering if whatever could create a . . . sharguana . . . also had a hand in altering the apparently native tuna into something disgusting and inedible." Jacob said with a razor smile. "When I come back tomorrow, if there are no dead crabs littered around the fish body, I will know it is edible and not poisonous. On the other hand, if there is a crab massacre - I will not be fishing anymore."
Jacob glanced at the main building. "I will be ransacking the main building in search of proper tools for our kitchen. Afterwards I plan for something a little more foreign for dinner, widen your palate a little. I am thinking couscous for starters, that is relatively popular in France. Not too foreign yet."

Ace gave a half-grin out the side of her mouth, "Fine, that makes sense for me. As long as the sun doesn't spoil the fish overnight that is." She said easily. She walked ahead of him slightly, turning back to him as he talked about cooking foreign stuff.
"Couscous? What is that, it sounds like what a baby'd call their cousin." She said, slightly put off by the sound of it. "Oh god," She realized, "I bet it's healthy. I bet it's like, grains of wholenut fibre or something." She grimaced at the notion. "You know if I don't like the taste I'm not eating it." She said simply. "And what do you mean, -France is very foreign."

Jacob rolls his eyes. "It is a type of wheat product topped with rice and meat soup. You are going to be one of those people that insist I buy a dead animal for every single meal, are you not? Some variety will benefit you. How about this: I promise to never make vegetable courses two consecutive days in a row. And France is not foreign. It's just across the Chunnel, barely sixty miles from home - wait, you're not English." Jacob grimaced. "Nevermind, I suppose."
When they reached the doors to the Academy, Jacob knocked the one in front of him open with a knee and tapped the air pressure brake that kept it from slamming shut - it hissed and slowed tremendously, allowing Ace to pass unhindered. "Go on ahead, I'll ransack the kitchen for decent toys to make it all with."

"Rice and meat soup?" Ace repeated, feeling slightly sickened by the idea. "Hah, you know I should start writing down all these promises you keep making, Chef, because I swear you'll break all of them at least once by the end of the year." She said with confidence.
"Sixty miles from your home.. I'm pretty sure it's nowhere near where I'm from." She said shaking her head. "You don't cook with toys either I hope you know. You cook with other things, like those sticks, and forks." She said waving her hand about the air vaguely.
"Fine so, Hasta Luego." She said, walking on ahead towards their dorm. She was going to order more cigarettes tonight using the magic of the internet, that was if Jack let her use it for a few. Ace thought to herself that she should really pay more attention the next time he types in the password, she might be able to memorize his movement.
