Jacob remained unfazed. "I am saying there are two beers left in the freezer and you are not getting both of them." he replied. "And that two beers aren't enough to get drunk on anyways, so we might as well order more now."
He paused to finish off his last biscuit, then raised an eyebrow at her request, but simply nodded. "Alright." he said simply. "I will honor your request. This said, I am not going to let you just pass out on the floor somewhere. Stepping on you would be a tremendous health hazard."

Ace listened to his explanation about his words. "... Fine, okay..." She conceded eventually to ordering more beer. She searched his expression for a moment but found no changes.
She did notice his eyebrow raise whenever she reminded him of the dorm-rules that they had established. However, a part of her felt disappointed at how easily he accepted them. "Fine then. I won't pass out on your side of the room, how's that." She said somewhat bitter. She took another sip of water and finished off one of her biscuits. She wondered if she had just basically cut future meals out of the arrangement. She decided to savour this one, just in case.
"Yeah, you might fall, crack your head open and turn into me." She said in a low voice, whenever he spoke of health hazards. She didn't look at him when she spoke, instead focusing on the plate before her.

Jacob glanced up at Ace's response, eyebrows furrowed. "You are free to, although I would have to carry you farther." he noted, apparently oblivious. "You should eat more, make my life miserable for doing so."
A sip of his milk as he pondered her last statement, mulling it as he swallowed. "Well." he responded. "At least I have some experience in sudden gender transition. It could be worse. You could fall and turn into me, and in a week's time we would both be fat."

Ace looked up from her plate after his statements to glare at him for a few seconds. She pushed her meal away from her, half-finished. "I'm done." She said simply. She stood up from the stool and walked towards the couch. "You're a fucking tool, I hope you know." She said without raising her voice, not particularly making the effort for him to hear it. If he did it would simply be coincidence.
She grabbed the remote and changed the channel from infomercials and landed on a TV show that was a comedy. She kept the volume turned down because loud noises hurt her in her hungover state, and lay on her side, trying to ignore him. She found it surprisingly difficult, but wouldn't let her eyes leave the TV set.

Jacob stood up, took the used plates, and washed them. "Yes." he replied, bluntly. "But since you do not respond well to honesty, and do not appreciate me joking, and do not enjoy my help, I am left with tactlessness. I am sorry for that."
Then he headed into the shower, grabbing a change of clothes from his bed along ten way, and the hissing of water soon overrode anything else that my have escaped his mouth.

Ace listened to his words and waiting until he had gone into the shower to sit herself up again, glancing over her shoulder before turning to the ground. She listened to the water run for a minute or two before making a decision.
She turned off the TV and started to pile the stuff that scattered the floor around the room in one central area. She walked over to the set of unused drawers on her side of the room and began to sort and tidy the place. It took less than 10 minutes, and after she had done that, she went across the hall to the closet and pulled out the vacuum cleaner, pulling it to the main room, plugging it in and getting to work.
Ace worked quickly, as she wanted to be finished before Jacob got out of the shower. She wasn't exactly experienced as a cleaner, but she did push herself. When she was finished with the small space she leaned against the wall, crossed her arms and waited.

The sound of the vacuum cleaner gave Jacob a start, but soon enough he just smiled and went on with washing his hair. It took him less than ten minutes to shower, as per usual, and then he dried off, got dressed, and leaned against the inside of the bathroom door, waiting for the sounds to die down and indicate she had finished.
When they had, he turned and opened the door, scrubbing a hand through his hair, and paused as he surveyed the new-cleaned room. "You cleaned." he stated, surprised. A breathy laugh. Then he inclines his head to Ace, a faint smile on his face. "Thanks, Jane."

Ace looked up whenever he opened the door. She waited in silence for him to survey it and make some sort of assessment. She gave a half-grin and stepped away from the wall she had been leaning against. "Well, it was, like..." She looked towards the door to formulate what she wanted to say, "Least I could do, after." She paused.
Her hands fumbled with the sleeves of her jacket, "And all... Oh, um, I was going to make ... grilled cheese for lunch, later... because you cook to much..." She stopped talking to go and grab the remote, "Here." She walked over and handed it to him. Then, she stepped back and just watched to see what he would do with it. Her expression was flat, like a gambler when assessing the face of an opponent.

Jacob's smile gentled as he listened to Ace, and widened at the same time. When she finally just handed the remote over, his hand met hers halfway and took it.
"You," he said, quite seriously, although he can't stop smiling, "are in serious danger of a hug at the moment, and it is only my newfound pride in you that keeps me respectful of your personal space."
Instead, he takes the remote, and raises an eyebrow at her. "I will be glad to see that. Although if you want, I can teach you to cook as I do."

Ace watched his growing smile, though kept her own face neutral. She blinked trying to comprehend what he meant. She wondered what would make him so proud of her, that she vacuumed and cleaned and gave him the remote? She didn't think that was anything to base pride off of. She didn't ask though.
She laughed his comment off in the end, before he offered to teach her to cook. She scratched at the back of her neck and looked towards the floor as she replied to that, "Ah, Wouldn't be a good student, me... I'd just fuck the kitchen up and make you punch holes in the wall." She laughed a bit, looking back up at him.

"Well, as you have done a fair job of not fucking up the rest of the dorm, I would take a shot at it anyway." Jacob answered, and his hand twitched as if to reach up for Ace's head, but he restrained the motion. Instead he circled around her and turned the TV on, rolling through the minimal selection of channels without much interest.
"So." he said. "I have a complete and total free day today. No classes or lab visits at all. You got any suggestions for what I could do, or should I just go harass more fish at the shoreline?"

Ace gave a small grin at that. "Sure then, I guess... I mean, if it ain't too much effort..." She said, accepting his offer to teach her to cook. He moved passed her to turn on the Tv, and Ace turned on her heels after he passed, to watch the TV as well.
"Well," She considered for a moment, "You could always try out the forest or the water refinery, though what you'd actually do there is beyond me." She suggested, thinking of places that she didn't think he'd been to yet. It was probably for logical reasons that he didn't. She shrugged, not able to think of much else. "What do you do in your labs anyway?" She said, curious about what other students actually studied.

"Study and help other students determine the exact limits and uses of their powers." Jacob answered. "Vocational work-studdy program. Very interesting, if very frustrating as well. If I wanted to hear kids whine about their power being lame I would have started coaching little league again." A grumble. "And what a wonderful experience that was . . ."
He shifted. "I try to learn more about mine when I can, but since nothing can actually detect it so far, I'm more or less out of luck."
Jacob shook his head and smiled. "I'll try one of those places then. See if I can find anything interesting."

Ace nodded, "That's cool I guess..." She said, then laughed, "So you coached little league? ... I don't even have anything to say to that." She said, shaking her head, seating herself on the arm of the couch.
She felt a bit bad about his lack of luck, though didn't know if she had the power to raise his chances. There was Schrodinger's cat, and then there was focusing on something that could easily have been decided a long long time ago. She didn't want to try anyway, just in case she succeeded.
"Alright. I guess that's it then. Enjoy anyway... I don't know what I'm doing, honestly..." She wished him, calming down and relaxing once again. She just pretty much was just waiting until he left, feeling some kind of unspoken obligation to pay attention until he did. Maybe later she'd head out herself. She'd been stuck inside all yesterday, after all, and it wasn't raining or anything at the moment...

"It was a one-time thing, I assure you." Jacob said dryly. "One season was more than enough to convince me that I had much, much less stressful things to do with my time, like feed sharks."
He grabbed his shoes and slid them on, absently pondering. "I have been to the forest beforehand. The water purity plant, I have not, and I admit to some curiousity about the desalinization process. I have never learned the specifics."
Jacob smiles and shakes his head. "Curiousity, I am sad to proclaim, is the first and most enduring burden I must bear."

Ace tried to imagine him, presumably as someone else, older and all, standing on a pitch telling children not to spit on the ground because it's unhygienic, to leave the frog alone and pay attention... At least, that's how Ace imagined the situation.
"Ah, it's alright," She said of the water refinery, "It's just a big thing that makes a lot of noise. Careful for the floor though." She added, remembering her last trip there. "It's loose in parts I think."
She stood up from the couch's arm that she was sitting on, and walked to the kitchen, where she proceeded to pour herself another glass of water. The hangover was fading slightly, her headache gone thanks to the aspirin and her stomach purged and refilled to have no more complaints. She took a sip of her glass and looked into the water of it, thinking, spinning the glass to make a little whirlpool inside it, then stopping her action to watch it fade.
She glanced up at Jack again after a moment and said, "Hey, Jack?" She paused to phrase her words, "I hope you know that I actually do enjoy your help and all that. I mean, you do know that right?" She said, toning down what she meant into a much more casual and distant act. She took another sip of water and looked at the TV, like she hadn't said anything.
"Enjoy looking at loud machines, Jack. See ya later."

"I will keep an eye out for any points of structural damage." Jacob assured her as he stood. He paused to listen to her; and turned a pleased smile back on her for a moment. "I do know now." he said, quite sincerely. "And I will remember, Ace."
A flash of humor widens his smile for a moment. "You are not what I had expected, and better than I had hoped."
He poked her forehead once, playfully, and then ambled out the door, relaxed in stride and shoulder.

Her eyebrows furrowed curiously and then he said his bit. Ace blinked as she was poked in the head, wondering why does he keep doing that?. Still, she gave a small laugh at his words, not sure what he meant by that. What did he actually expect?. Regardless, she watched him leave the dorm. She shook her head and glanced at the opposite wall, just thinking of the last 24 hours. She began to grin but stopped herself.
She finished her water, rubbed her eyes, walked into the living room and planked the couch silently. She'd leave in a while. After clearing her head.
