This place is way too warm for extended learning about physics. Rust Kekise surmised.
Yawning and stretching his arms above his head, the British teen wandered out onto the beach again. This had been the place where he'd met Noel a few days ago, but this would also be the first time he'd visited here in the day. Truth to be told, he was bored. Even with the friends he'd made, he still hadn't managed to bring himself to organise a house warming party yet.
Which sucks. I'm still owed cookies. And a cake even. Damn it, Gabrielle.
Still, he'd had his lectures for the day that he'd booked for himself and now it was time for some well deserved rest, in his view. Homework and private study? Screw that for now, let's go sunbathing.
Well, not really sunbathing as he couldn't be arsed to go back and grab sunscreen from his dorm. Besides, prancing about half naked in the sand when he'd only been here a few days? He wasn't THAT interested in showing off his body to others.
So, clad in light blue shorts and an open white cargo vest with no shirt, the mechanic wandered onto said beach, flip flops annoyingly slapping against the wet sand as he walked through the surf a little, trying to cool himself down.
Well...least I got somewhere pretty to look at.

By sheer chance, Gabrielle had made her way to that particular beach not long before Rust, and was wandering up and down the waterline in her bare feet. She was wearing baggy black combats with the large pockets full of various things and a grey, short sleeved t-shirt that showed the densely inked tattoos that were trailing and weaving along her arms and across her collarbone.
Her attention was split between texting on her phone and taking pictures of the sea, the sand, her feet and random shells, so now and again she'd wander off course, into the water itself and almost get drenched. In fact, her combats were soaked to the knee.
The phone beeped and brought up the newest text automatically. Gabrielle read, then made a face at it and started tapping out a reply.

Checking up ahead, Rust saw a familiar sight...and grinned somewhat evilly. Summoning the Astral Arm, he slowly extended it until it was right behind the girl. However, at this distance, he couldn't see that she was texting on her phone.
Slowly...slowly...slowly...
Thanking the sun for bleaching out the glow from the AA, Rust, out of nowhere, tapped Gabrielle on the shoulder with it quickly.
"HEY GABRIELLE!" he shouted from 25 feet away.

Luckily for her, Gabrielle clutched her phone tightly instead of letting go of it. This meant she didn't drop it into the ocean, though it did send off a half finished message.
However, it did mean that the delicate electronic device did end up pressed between her hand and the Astral Arm as she turned around, grabbed said appendage and reflexively released a sharp burst of telekinetic energy at it without realising what it even was.
Upon realising what it was and who it belonged to, she let quickly go and took a step back, wincing.
"Oh fuck!"

Imagine having a gong sounded right by your ear. That's what it felt like for Rust as Gabrielle sent the telekinetic burst. Crying out a little, he crouched low, grabbing his head as the AA flailed for a little bit before shrinking down to regular size and back to it's regular position, floating above Rust's right arm.
"Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow." he muttered over and over, waiting for his head to stop ringing. When his mind cleared, he stood up again, rubbing his temples still, for comfort.
"Okay!" he called over, wincing still. "New rule! I don't surprise telekinetics with a combat reflex. Frigging hell, that hurt."
Awkwardly, he gave a wave as he walked over to Gabrielle, AA copying said wave.
"And here I thought we were friends, Gabrielle." he tried to smile through the headache.

Gabrielle looked at him, horrified, and waved back dumbly. Then she shook herself out of it and ran over to him, grabbing his face with both hands and checking his head for blood and his eyes for signs of a concussion.
"A-are you okay, R-rust?" she asked, her tone worried, then realised she was holding him by the face and let go.
"S-sorry. For b-both. But I d-don't think I b-broke anything, a-and you don't seem c-concussed."
She winced. "If it h-helps, I've g-got a h-headache too."

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit of mental bac-MPH!" was all the mechanic could get out before Gabrielle grabbed him by the face and began moving it about, stopping him from talking for the moment.
Holy hell! I know she's just checking up on me, but she's getting a bit touchy feely!
When she eventually let go, Rust massaged his jaw a little then went right back to it.
"Err...yeah, sure...it's alright." he replied, still weirded out a little. It was quickly replaced with his trademark grin. "But hey, we're both fine right? No biggie. I just won't sneak up on you again. Lesson learned the hard way, it seems."
Looking out to the sea for a moment, he shot her a glance.
"So, how's your life been without lil ol' me being present then?" he asked conversationally. "Place been good to ya?"

"Uh, it's b-been g-good. M-mostly hiding in my r-room, w-waiting to get my c-class schedule. H-how've you been? In l-less pain, I'm guessing."
She scratched her head, looking embarrassed. "I-is there anything I c-can do to m-make up for that? S-seriously, I'll buy you d-dinner, m-make you dinner, or, uh...."
An idea suddenly struck her (don't worry, it left no lasting damage).
"Wait!"
She started rummaging through her pockets and then pulled out a plastic baggie of Smartie cookies.

Rust nodded.
"Yeah, you could say that. I've actually had one lesson so far, so I'm not sure what's up with your timetable...maybe it's just sorting itself out?" he reasoned, shrugging, pain in his head fading as he dismissed the Arm. Then, he realised her stutter again.
Oh crap! Gotta stop this acting up again!
"Hey, hey...breathe girl..." he advised her, cautiously. "Relax a bit before trying, yeah? Atta girl..." Rust encouraged. Then he realised what she said. "Oh, you don't have to go that far, Gabrielle! Honest mistake, right? Seriously, don't put yourself through that kind of troubl- are those cookies?"
Rust just stared, before chuckling.
"You remembered! Awesome! That's actually made my day, that has!" Taking one of the cookies with gratitude, Rust stuck it in his cargo vest to save for later whilst leaving the rest for her. "Seriously, thank you so much for that. I was only joking when I said it back on the boat."

Gabrielle was about to tell him that he could relax about her stuttering and that if she really was as panicky as it made her seem, she'd have had a heart attack years ago, when he got distracted by cookies.
She smiled and held out the bag for him in her free hand, shaking them at him.
"T-take another one." she offered, doing the slow speaking again, "I've got the i-ingredients for more in my room, and some s-sandwiches in my other pocket. No big deal. R-really though. L-let me do something. I f-feel bad doing a hit and run on you like that. I w-was just d-distracted by my..."
She stopped.
"Oh fuck, my phone."
She checked her phone, still in her left hand, and winced, this time from fiscal pain. The screen of the phone had a shallow crack running along the left side and a cluster of pixels in the upper righthand corner has gone dead. The buttons looked safe though, and the screen was showing a screensaver rather than blackness.
"Oh thank fuck."

The mechanic just let her speak.
"Gabrielle, if you offer to do something for something as minor as that, I'll call you Gabby out of principal." he joked, clearly using the name she wasn't fond of. "Besides, it's what friends do. Do stupid crap to each other and the guilty one often gets hurt in a humorous way. Called karma, I suppose."
Rust saw the phone and winced. That had been Gabrielle slamming it against the AA that had done that.
"Ach, son of a... Look, I'm really sorry about that." The Brit thought something over for a few moments before nodding to himself, grinning slightly. "Tell you what, I'll accept dinner or something like that IF and ONLY IF, I get to have a look at that phone later. Might be able to jimmy some things around, get a new replacement screen and sort out those pixels for ya. Worst comes to worst, I get you a new phone."
He shrugged.
"S'no biggie. The will some far off relative left us has given me more than enough so money's no object."

Gabrielle poked a few buttons and sighed in relief when the screen showed the text pop up.
"Well, it's working, because my sister just sent me a reply. She's kind of confused as to why my last message got cut off." she said, giving Rust a meaningful though not unfriendly look, then laughed. "I'm going to tell her a maniac attacked me on the beach and I had to bribe him with cookies to make him cease and desist."
She started clicking, then tilted her head. "And hey, I thought you were a mechanic, not a technician? Or is it engineer... Sure, you can have it after this. Even if you can't fix it, can you get my stuff off it? I might be able to buy a newish one secondhand, so don't worry about replacing it."

"Meh, worth a shot, I supposed." Rust admitted. "I thought I'd be able to probably make something up on the spot to fix it up. Gotta be honest, was showing off, but hell, I thought I'd at least try. Y'know, since it's cracked."
He sighed, looking out to sea.
"And tell her the maniac was so sorry he offered to buy you a new one. Don't forget that bit," he grinned as he continued looking out past the surf at the bright sunny sky. A few birds cries could be heard, but there was hardly any other noise than the surf.
"S'really freaking pretty, don't you think?" he asked out of the blue. "This whole place, I mean. S'a tropical paradise..."

"Well, for what it's worth, I appreciate it, and you can look at it if you want. Who knows, you might get a bolt of inspiration" she made little wavy motions with her hands in the air "and fazzap it back into perfection. And don't worry, I'll make sure she knows you're a socially concious maniac." Gabrielle said, grinning. She sent off the text, and got a reply just a few seconds after.
"Oh, for fuck sake. Can I take a picture of you, please? As proof."

The mechanic blinked at the out of the blue question, but nevertheless, recovered enough to nod.
"Err...sure I guess if you don't mind me taking up memory. I know I'm not exactly a male model though so feel free to delete afterwards." he joked. Standing back a bit, a brilliant idea came to his head.
"Hold on a second, let me get a pose up!"
His right arm moved and as always, the Astral Arm copied it exactly. What Gabrielle would get for a picture now was a grinning Rust Kekise flashing the Peace sign with a ghostly clawed hand mimicking him, the translucent blue index and middle fingers raised in a V, but the polite version rather than the indecent gesture.
"Snap away, Gabrielle."

Gabrielle laughed and took the photo. She showed it to Rust before she sent it off.
"Not a bad one of you anyway." Gabrielle said, then thought about it. "Well, not school photo bad at least." she joked as she sent the picture off, then put the phone in her pocket with the cookies.
"Now she'll believe me. And to get back to your other question that I completely blanked on, this place is beautiful. It makes me think of home, but that's just because of the heat. How can you even handle it here? Isn't England meant to be balls cold? My changeover was through Heathrow and I almost got hypothermia!"

Rust just laughed at that.
"Aww, was it cold for diddums?" he asked in a babying voice. "Honestly, you get used to it. Heat's easier to deal with than the cold. you tend to just take more clothes off than put them on."
Yes, he still didn't realise what he was doing.
"Besides, think of it this way. I'll be the first ever Brit to come here and get a constant tan instead of burning like a lobster. Because most only have two settings in the sun. Red enough to make tomatoes jealous, or pale enough to get skin cancer from a crescent moon."
|

Gabrielle blushed.
"W-well, I'm not into taking my c-clothes off. I've got m-modesty." she mumbled. "B-besides," she held out her tanned arm next to his pale, non-astral one and stuck out her tongue at him.
"I don't need to t-take my clothes off to handle the heat because I'm not a Brit with skin like a descaled fish." she said teasingly.
The phone bipped in her pocket and she fished it out, opened the reply and sighed. She showed it to him, shaking her head.
Wow, you weren't joking. Does he menace all the girls? =P

Dismissing the Astral Arm, Rust just conceded the point.
"Yeah, you're more tanned than me. Stop rubbing it in." he grumbled good naturedly. "Not to mention it's your genetics kicking in there. I call that a disadvantage for my side."
Shaking his head, the mechanic looked up when Gabrielle showed him the text. He blanched slightly.
"Err...not...completely sure what she means by that, but okay. Least it's not "phone the police! He looks creepy!" That'd be awesome for my self esteem."
...err....what...do? Unsure...help...

"Well, that's your own fault for not having better genetics, isn't it? You should get on that, for your children's sake. Find yourself a nice tanned girl and menace the world with sun resistant mechanics."
She paused. "That would be... weird. Don't do that. Huh. And I'm sure she's not calling you creepy. She's calling you, um..."
She blushed again. "She's calling you h-hot."

"I'm...not sure genetics works like that. I didn't do Biology GCSE but damn if it works like that, I'll eat my jacket."
The next thing caught him off guard.
....BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT
Ladies and gentlemen, Rusty Kekise's brain has currently shut down. Would you like to enter reset mode? Y/N
Y selected.
"Hoobidbabidy....WHA...?!" he just about managed to get out, staring at the tanned girl. He couldn't think of a response, so his body did what came naturally. He blushed a deep red.
"Err...tell her thanks?" he stammered slightly. "And...whatever else you feel is necessary?"

Gabrielle gave him a worried look.
"You realise that confusion and incoherent speech are signs of concussion, right?" she asked, typing out another text then putting her hand on his forehead to see if he had a fever. Because fevers and concussions always go together!
"Do you need me to take you to the, uh, nurse's office or whatever they have here for medical facilities? Or was it just my sister's text that broke you? I'll, uh, I'll give out to her for it."

Rust recovered.
"Err...no, it's fine. Just...err...kinda threw me for a loop, is all. Not used to girls who've only seen me via text declaring me hot is all." he answered honestly. He sheepishly scratched the back of his own head.
"Err...just...don't tell her you told me that. No need to make this awkward, right?" he chuckled...extremely awkwardly.
Then Gabrielle started to check his temperature. Why, he didn't know. He shifted under her grip.
"Doubt it's a concussion." he answered, finding a topic to grip onto. "Had one a few years back. Didn't look where I was going and walked into the business end of a steel girder. Not pleasant at all, let me tell you."
We're moving swiftly on! Please take up this new topic!

Gabrielle got the hint, for once.
"You walked in to a girder? Well, that explains the face."
Well, she sort of got the hint anyway.
"Don't worry, I'm joking. You don't look like you got beaten with a wrench but then, if you had, you'd either be in the hospital or you'd look like me."
She tapped her nose, drawing attention to the way that it went crooked halfway down.
"What was so fascinating that a steel girder was able to menace you anyway?"

If he hadn't recovered fully by now, her crack about his features definitely sorted him out. Rust gave Gabrielle a mock look of horror before she mentioned she was joking, to which he smirked.
"Hey, don't sell yourself short. I honestly didn't notice until you pointed it out, Gabrielle." he tried to assure her. The mechanic shrugged. "Besides, not as if it's a bad thing, now is it?"
Her question however, made him give an amused look at her.
"Would you believe that I was seeing if I could make the Astral Arm flex at all? Like, seeing if it had any proper muscles? Stupid, I know, but...that's what happened."
