Silas && Kinkade 'cause what you want's not what you're getting. it's just a matter of time. "Relax, Sunshine. Patience is a virtue. Besides- this is a particularly inspiring hallway. Let's just enjoy it."Silas' tone was reassuring which the blond at his side seemed to need, but showed no signs of benefiting from. The shorter blond looked nervous about something that Silas couldn't be bothered to acknowledge as a legitimate problem. Instead, Silas dropped the two suitcases he'd carried, his own and Kinkade's, against the wall near their shared dorm. A set of dull thuds, one after the other, echoed through the hall making the blond jump then hush his friend before he went back to fussing over the lost key. Silas was not amused by either reaction.
"I'm sure the key was right here, Sly. Where'd it go? Did I drop it? What are we going to do now? What if they don't let us in? What if we end up sleeping outside, Silas!"Kins questioned, digging through his jean pocket as Silas sat atop one of the suitcases. Kins had already turned his pockets inside out, literally. How he could manage to lose something so important was beyond him. And Silas, with his characteristic composure did nothing to ease his concern over the incident.
"Probably did, in the plane, yesterday. No use worrying now. And if we sleep outside, all the better to get to know people. Maybe we can have a giant slumber party in our temporary room.
"Silas was delighted by the prospect. Tons of people sleeping in one place, without doors to keep him out? He was all for that. But his offer wasn't one he even considered pursuing. If nothing else, he'd go to an official looking desk and ask for another key or make friends with fellow students so they'd let Kins crash on an extra bed or something. There was nothing to worry about no matter how guilty the blond boy felt. Too bad Kinkade wouldn't listen to reason. As it stood, Silas was being ignored, and he secretly hated it. " Do you want some Skittles while we wait? "Silas questioned after a few moments of silence elapsed between the two. From his own pocket came a bag of tropical Skittles. His red eyes shifted to observe the blond who, after a moment's hesitation, relented and took his rightful spot at Silas' side on the other suitcase. Silas smiled and offered Kins the Skittles before he turned his focus to the wall and doorways across from them. At the moment, there seemed precious few other options. So, he stared absently, letting his mind wander while he waited. For what? Well, he certainly didn't know. But he knew, without a doubt, that if he was patient enough something would happen in this hallway.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
Alora had been in her own dorm a few minutes previous, carefully arranging and rearranging the few things she had brought with her to Soto Island. Even after leaving the room she continued to ponder whether or not she should have put the photograph to the left of her box of hairclips instead of the right. Silly little thoughts like that preoccupied her mind, and she was glad for them. Thoughts filled the emptiness of her dorm-room. It would seem her roomie hadn't arrived just yet... Or perhaps Alora was just doomed to isolation.
As Alo walked to the vending machine at the end of the hall to get a bar of smooth chocolate, she tried not to consider it. So, I suppose I'll be color-coding the drawers next... She gave a small sigh as the vending machine was in sight. Behind the glass lay all sorts of wonders, packs and packs of bars and bonbons. Neat consumer-friendly packaging proclaiming things like 'Only 100 Calories!' or 'Now even Crunchier!'. So... many... choices... Her finger lifted towards the glass as if to point at the one she wanted, aimlessly moving towards the buttons...
Before the indecision overcame her, a loud bang echoed down the corridor. Alo nearly jumped into the air in fright. "Hello? Is somebody there?
" The 14 year old called. After a moment of silence she figured they were too far away, and so stepped slowly away from the vending machine. I'll be back for you! She promised it inwardly. Curiously, she tiptoed towards the end of the hall where there was a sudden turn into another, longer corridor. She peered beyond. There, two boys sat on their suitcases about halfway down. She could make out from a distance that one was blond and the other dark-haired like herself. They seemed older than her, and even sitting down she was sure they would tower over her, though most people did, she realized, as she only stood at 4'11". They could be nice... She hoped to herself in a way that seemed to argue against a more reasonable thought in her head- that which told her not to talk with strangers. Actually... What're they doing on the floor? She wondered. " Are you guys stuck out here or something?" She asked in a cheery voice as she emerged from the hall's end. Alora hoped they wouldn't laugh at her wearing a floral summery dress with little poofs at the sleeves.. she was regretting taking her granny's clothes more every day. She paused at the end of the hall considering her options to turn and go back to tidying her dorm... but quickly made up her mind about something for once and walked, well, half skipped towards the two to see if, perhaps, she could be of any assistance. Silas && Kinkade 'cause what you want's not what you're getting. it's just a matter of time. Bright red eyes, suddenly ablaze with interest, shifted to the girl who was addressing them. His lips curved into a small smile, but he stayed sitting as she came closer to them. So... happy. So gloriously happy. Hopefully his friend would get along with her. He didn't seem inclined to say anything just yet. Fortunately there wasn't awkwardness from his silence, thanks to Kinkade's quick action.
Kinkade would not have noticed her nearly as quickly as he did if it wasn't for the sudden emotion from Silas. Once it was there, he caught on to the cheerful emotion radiating from the new girl and the words she was speaking. Oh! Perfect. He jumped to his feet and turned to face Alora with a bright smile, happy that she was willing to help them. She looked shorter and younger than the both of them- Silas being eighteen now, and himself being sixteen- but if they were really lucky, this girl would be somehow official or a student that knew the staff. He was banking on one of those two possibilities.
"Hi! Us? Uh, yes. Kind of. I lost the key to our room so we can't get in yet."Kins admitted sheepishly, a blush lighting his cheeks at the admission. His tone was still cheerful to match hers, and he still managed to smile despite the pink tint lighting his cheeks.
Now Silas rose, standing at Kins' side. He likely wouldn't have if he didn't feel compelled to correct his friend, but he didn't need two particularly cheerful teens upset over a silly key that could still be found, if they were patient enough.
"It'll turn up. No need to worry. Kins just feels guilty.
"Silas explained passively. Everything would be fine, they would fix this. Just ... not now. So there was no point dwelling on it. " I'm Silas, and this little ball of sunshine is Kinkade."Silas introduced before carefully stealing the opened package of Skittles from Kinkade's hand. " Want some candy?" Sadly, Kins likely wouldn't have remembered to offer them, and they were Silas' to begin with. So he held them out to the new girl as a sort of peace offering. We offer the rainbow, trust us. He wasn't sure how much clearer he could make it.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
Alora was glad to see them smile back at her as she approached them. See? They are nice! She blinked dumbly for a moment at the news that they had lost their key. This news came from the boy named Kinkade with the yellow eyes, as yellow as his hair. She noticed as well in this close range that Silas had red eyes, and thought this peculiar. Alora opened her mouth to give some helpful advice, but was distracted by Silas standing up.
She heard him speak and introduce himself and Kinkade. A light youthful laugh escaped her as Kinkade was called a little ball of sunshine. It seemed these two knew each other well. Brothers maybe? She wondered to herself, but thought it too forward to ask so early in the conversation.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Alora." Her eyes followed the skittles out of Kinkade's hands and into Silas', and then to her. She bit her lower lip in restraint, but only for a second. "Sure! Thanks! I was actually just about to get some myself down the hall." She told them, like it was a very exciting tale indeed. Alora reached her thumb and forefinger into the small bag to pull out a little round sweet. It was orange.
Without delay, she popped the little capsule of peace into her mouth and broke into it with her teeth, the tangerine flavor tingling her taste buds by means of artificial preservatives and flavorings. Delicious~ "I don't know what I can do with your key problem though..." She told them as she chewed, covering her mouth with her hand so not to be rude.
"I'm new here myself... Well I do know where I can find the headmaster, I'm sure he has spares... Or..." She considered the thought which had come to her. More importantly, she thought of the likelihood of it failing and in result causing her to look foolish. "Well, I don't know. I could try and make a key, it'd be faster... But I can't guarantee anything..." She paused to swallow, before laughing.
"I don't think I ever took so long to chew a skittle in my life!"

Silas && Kinkade 'cause what you want's not what you're getting. it's just a matter of time. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Alora.
"Silas replied politely. His tone was sincere, his smile genuine. When she said that she had wanted to get her own, Silas' grin became one of accomplishment. He would have gave her the entire bag then if it wasn't for her reply. Oh. Great. That stupid key. He was going to get Kinkade a chain for that cursed key. Silas patiently waited until the girl was done speaking. He didn't interrupt, didn't urge her on with acknowledgement, he just waited, listening to every word. The headmaster? Well, Silas wasn't likely to stay on good terms with the man, so getting on his radar now wasn't appealing even if it wasn't for anything bad yet. He would do it, it just wasn't his first choice. Next she suggested that she could make a key herself. Truly, she could? Now that was fascinating. " Don't worry about it,"Silas chuckled at her last statement, truly amused by her. This girl was cute. This was as much a fact in Silas' mind as her name. But that wouldn't stop him from reversing the conversation and prompting her about her ability. " Now, make one, you said? You're capable of that? What exactly can you do?" While she held herself back from questions- like what the boys' relationship was- he had no problem asking the question that came to mind. He couldn't care less about whether or not they had a key, but information about her appealed to him. " My ability is empathy,"Kins offered, trying to make her feel more comfortable with Silas' question. That earned him a scowl from Silas- Silas didn't really want to tell her what his own power was, and if Kins offered his so willingly, it made it awkward for him not to offer his own. Kinkade shrugged in response which made the bright red eyes leave him and fix back onto Alora, his gaze now softer.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
Alora noticed Silas' expression drop when she had even mentioned the key. It was almost as if he didn't want to get in. Feeling odd about it, her words had been slow coming. When she had finished and Silas told her not to worry about it, she gave a smile. She felt very pleased that these two were as nice as she had hoped- what with the candy even nicer!
She nodded to his question, not needing much persuasion to speak on the subject. "Ya, I hope I can make it anyway... I can change stuff.. into other stuff. It can be anything as long as it's not alive." She said, trying to explain it the best she could. She didn't feel any need to withhold this information from them, but then again, Alora trusted far too many people.
"I could probably get the shape of the lock from the empty skittles bag in a putty, then inverse it and make it a key..." Alora still hadn't complete control over this power though, and she feared it mightn't happen so easily. "It's a bit risky though, that's all. " She told them, looking to the floor as if embarrassed by it. She could remember countless occassions when she had warped her creations on accident, or if she lost focus. Sometimes they'd be blobs, other times they'd be made of something dangerous and she'd have to wear gloves to clean the mess up. Kinkade's power caused Alora's eyes to light up. " Empathy? So you can feel my emotions right now?" She beamed in awe, " That's so cool!" She enthused. She wondered what it must be like to feel so much all at once, finding the concept fascinating, though, again, she didn't ask. Just as Silas had thought, it had turned Alora's attention towards him. The silence in those moments was almost tangible until she finally asked the question." What about you Silas?" She tilted her head to the side, " What can you do?"She gave a small smile to try and not be intimidating... but that wasn't happening anyway. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Silas && Kinkade 'cause what you want's not what you're getting. it's just a matter of time. "Amazing.
"Silas murmured after she explained, his expression one of interest now. Manipulating matter! Imagine the possibilities! The more she talked, the more he liked her. When she mentioned that she'd need the empty bag of Skittles, he offered the remaining Skittles back to her. " Then, here. If you don't mind, I would like to see it."Silas insisted. He wanted her to have them anyway, and he really didn't want them now; he'd gotten them for the trip here. Now that he was here it was time to eat real food, prepared, warm food. Not sugar. But she could enjoy them. " Risky? It's not going to hurt you, is it?"Kinkade questioned. Concern. That was what his tone held so definitively; but that was common for the Scottish boy. Silas was convinced it had to do with being from a country other than the U.S., actually. He was quiet after that until he was addressed by Alora. Immediately, he blinked in surprise. She was actually impressed? He grinned after a few seconds, glad that she approved. " Yeah- I can also influence your mood. I can't really force you to feel things-"Kins began before he was interrupted by Silas. " Like love- we've tried,"Silas teased, but he wasn't watching Alora. He was watching Kinkade very closely. His words inspired in the blond a blush which satisfied him. Kinkade turned his attention to Silas in response. Kins wasn't mad, but he looked ready to say something; his lips parted but no sound came. So, he closed his mouth and turned his attention back to Alora, his cheeks still red. " Or love. I can just sort of radiate the emotion- like, make you feel it like I do. And usually if people feel it, they wanna experience it. They like the suggestion. But your emotions are always stronger than my suggestions."Kinkade explained. He was terrified of people not liking his ability because it often infringed upon people's sense of privacy, for which he was constantly sorry. So it was inevitable that Kinkade would explain it, whether she asked or not. He had to. " My power ... Kade is annoying, isn't he?"Silas questioned. His tone wasn't malicious, but when his attention went to the blond, he looked like he'd just been kicked. The look didn't suit Kinkade as far as Silas was concerned. Especially since Silas was the reason for it. " Dream manipulation." Silas added, answering the question he was convinced Kinkade had prompted with his gaze now on Alora. He sort of felt bad for being mean. Now, to his power there were many reactions a person could experience. None of them particularly appealed to him. That is to say, to Silas, there was no 'right' reaction. So he waited patiently for whatever the girl would do or say next so he could get it over with. " Sly doesn't sleep either, that's why he doesn't care that I lost our key."Kinkade added helpfully, seeming to have forgotten that Silas had said anything before. This time the red eyes didn't turn to him, so Silas wasn't too upset about that. But Silas often told him that he talked too much. Right now was no exception, he was sure.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
A light tint of pink came to Alora's cheeks when her power was called amazing. She realized that he hadn't even seen it yet, so didn't let it get to her head. After all, She knew that it wasn't as good as it sounded. I can't change the air... and I have to really focus... She wanted to say, feeling as though he was getting the wrong idea, thinking she was powerful.
She shook her head, "No, it doesn't hurt me... It just doesn't always work out..." She explained, scratching her cheek. She felt the skittles bag being pushed into her hand and gave a small gasp, as one might at a far more momentous event. "But, are you sure?" She looked between the two boys, unsure whether she should accept this gift.
She raised her eyebrows in surprise that Kinkade could change peoples emotions as well as feel them himself. "You've tried? Oh. Uh... Well..." She felt almost embarassed having heard that, as she felt it wasn't for her to know. She really didn't know what to say to that, and was glad when Silas spoke.
"Aw that's not very nice, I don't think so~ Kinkade, you aren't annoying." She told him, giving a reassuring smile. She didn't want to seem mean, and she really hadn't found anything that the boy had said annoying up to that point. "You shouldn't be so mean to your... brother?" She tilted her head as she finished that question, unsure whether that was correct or not.
She listened to Silas' power. "Wow, Dream manipulation? So when I sleep you can see my dreams and stuff..." She looked almost spaced out at the thought of it, "That must be so cool, I bet it's a lot of fun!! When I sleep, my powers sometimes act up, because my imagination gets out of hand..." She sheepishly told him.
She put another skittle into her mouth, and finished the pack as quick as she could, the rainbow of flavours filling her mouth. When she had finished, she looked at the bag for a long moment. The red plastic wrapper, the little shards of skittle shell in the bottom of the packet, all the details filled her mind and she compared them with the desired outcome.
She imagined a putty, something really squishy that could fit into a small place. She thought of blue tak, and the texture of it. In her hands, she felt the plastic melt around her hands, the label seeming to fade away. The putty was a pale pink color, as if dyed from the red wrapper. She gave a sigh of relief. "There! Putty.. Now to put it into the key-hole... You want to do the honors Kinkade?" She asked, offering the putty to him.

Silas && Kinkade 'cause what you want's not what you're getting. it's just a matter of time. "Ohh- okay.
"Kinkade agreed with a passive nod. That satisfied him. In his opinion, Silas rushed forward too fast with things without taking other people's well being into account. But that was what he was here for, so there was no harm there. " Of course. After all that traveling, I think Kins and I should eat some real food rather than filling up on candy."Silas explained, trying to justify giving it to her so she wouldn't argue with him. He wasn't about to admit that he'd do something just to be nice. That just wasn't what someone wanted to expect from him, so he wouldn't admit it, not even to this girl he'd just met. " Well- I ... Sort of."Kins murmured, but he didn't go on to explain that Silas was to blame for the attempt in the first place. Silas just shouldn't have mentioned it. Unlike Silas, Kinkade wasn't about to insult his friend. Instead he kept his feelings to himself and kept quiet, hoping the topic would be forgotten. Fortunately for him, she went on to defend him. That was nice of her. " Thank you,"Kins responded, his tone delighted. It was nice to have her on his side, even if what Silas had said wasn't mean by Silas standards. He probably should have mentioned that he really didn't mind, or warned her that it could get a lot worse. But nothing could really prepare a person, no dire warnings, no examples. She'd see. Silas was only this nice some of the time. To the fact that she referred to them as brothers, he smiled and let Silas correct that. " Wait, if he's not my brother, can I be mean?"Silas grinned, his tone teasing. He wasn't taking her suggestion to heart in the least. If anything, he was treating it like a joke- egging on what he'd said. Silas knew what she meant, though, so he went on. " Kins is just my friend. He and his dad the only people my sister and I knew who had an ability in our town. So naturally, when he was around during the summer, we made the best of it." Kinkade was truly sleep deprived when he went back to Scotland each year. He did sleep during the summer months, but it was never at the same time, never for very long, and rarely in his own bed. " Something like that. Maybe I'll show you how it works sometime."Silas murmured airily when the conversation got to his power. Empty promise. She could hold him to it, and he'd do it without a problem, but he wasn't likely to ever approach her on the offer or to bring up the offer again without a good reason. Besides, he'd rather jump into the dreams of people that weren't expecting him rather than to ask for an invitation. That way they never knew if they were just dreaming of him, or if he had a hand in being there. Depending on how things went, Silas could play it either way after the fact. " Does your blanket change, then? Or the entire bed? Now that would be interesting."Silas was eager to change the topic, but he was also undeniably interested in her ability. It made him think she was unstoppable. A force to be reckoned with, as it were. Forget Kinkade; he wanted to be stuck in a jail cell with her, not the sympathetic one. Then again, Silas adored Kinkade. As his thoughts went along those lines, he draped one arm around his friend's shoulder, keeping the boy close to him. Both boys waited patiently, their eyes trained on the bag of skittles as her focus went to it. When it transformed, both boys were surprised. Silas kept his eyes on it to make sure it didn't shift back, while Kinkade blinked to ensure it didn't disappear before his eyes. As Silas had said, that was truly amazing. Alora would be a good person to have with them, especially if things ever took a turn for the worse. Plus, Silas was drawn to cheerful things. They had a magnetic effect, as though they were the latest shiny toy for his amusement. Silas' arm dropped from Kinkade at Alora's offer. You'd think it was Christmas or something from looking at the excitement and the radiant light in the blond's expression as she offered him the newly created putty. He took it cheerfully. In his hands it felt tangible enough. In fact, he couldn't think of a single reason this putty wasn't just the same as any other he played with as a child. " Thanks."Kinkade offered, his gaze lifting from the putty to her expression. Now, to put it in the key hole. This wouldn't be too hard, would it? At the very least it'd be easier than keeping track of the first key. So he moved to the door and carefully fed the putty into the tiny opening.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
The girl noted Kinkade's hesitance to explain what had happened, and she decided she wouldn't hassle him about it. Honestly it wasn't any of her business, as she saw it. When he thanked her for sticking up for him, Alora shook her head, "No need to thank me! All I said was a fact." She said with a beaming smile.
She turned then to Silas, "Oh! I'm sorry, I just assumed because you seemed very close... Though, now that I think about it..." She glanced between the two of them, and a lopsided smile appeared out of the corners of her mouth. "It would be a bit strange to be brothers and look so different! I really should have thought it through." Alora looked off to the side, a bit embarassed firstly that she hadn't seen the flaw in her logic, and secondly that she had unwittingly alerted them to said flaw.
"But no, I don't think you should be mean to anybody, if you can help it.." She added in Silas' direction. Then, she took a breath in and looked at him, suddenly alert, "I'm not saying that you are mean! I mean, you seem like a very nice person!!" Her hands were brought in front of her and she waved them back and forth, as if to wipe away that idea from their minds.
Then the topic was brought to her powers when she was sleeping. She paused, uncertain how to answer for a moment. "Well, It's always different, but.. Well, one time I woke up from a nightmare, for example, and I was literally glued to the sheets and my room was all slimey, it was really scary... I had to get a haircut after..." She tugged lightly at her own long black locks of hair as she told the story. It must have been a long time ago, because her hair had certainly grown back since, now reaching her lower back in length. She had said the word 'haircut' like it had been the real nightmare.
After her story was told, she watched Kinkade feed the putty into the lock. She gave a determined look at the lock, as if she was facing it down in a duel. "Thank you Kinkade!" She remembered to say to him, and then refocused on the obstacle. She moved her first finger to the putty and became aware of it in the keyhole. She knew it's texture, it's color, it's present form.the opposite of this shape would press all the little buttons in there!... At least, I hope that's how a lock works, right? She bit her lip, a little nervous, and her eyebrows scrunched together for a moment in consentration. Then, she felt the putty harden and morph. She envisioned a little silver key, with so-and-so a shape, and felt the new key push out at her first finger that had been touching the putty.
She stood up and took a step away, nervously. She looked at it for a long moment. "It looks like a key but..." She shook her head frantically, "I'm really sorry if it doesn't work, I can run down and get a copy of the key and I'll make up for all the wasted time!! I'll buy you a bag of skittles!" Alora was coming up with ways to make it up to them if she had failed, very uncertain about her outcome. It did look like a key, but she was too nervous about it to check herself if it actually behaved like one when turned...

Silas && Kinkade a plate of quite peculiar on a dish of my own? a tablespoon of feather. Kinkade was a bit uncomfortable trying to figure out what to say to ease her discomfort. It really wasn't that big of a mistake, and Silas would have made a great brother. Even though their eyes and hair was different, they could have been related in some way. But Kinkade said none of it. He just cast his gaze down, dragging the tip of his shoe along the floor in a nervous, automatic action.
Silas, on the other hand, was watching her with a grin. She. Was. Cute.
"Brothers by our parents' marriage? It's possible. Or, cousins. Or, suppose I could even be his uncle or something odd like that.
"Silas prompted reassuringly, trying to ease her embarrassment. It was for her benefit; he found her embarrassment adorable. But Silas found most emotions adorable when particular people experienced them. Oh, no. Silas' left hand went to his lips to stifle the laughter as Alora told him that he shouldn't be mean, and assured him that she did think he was nice. Then, much to his surprise, she began waving her hands. Silas couldn't figure out what that was about, but it set him to chuckling. " I'll try to be nicer."Silas promised. It was a lie. Kinkade looked at him strangely, as if to silently ask, ' why'd you tell her that?'. He shrugged his reply, then turned his gaze back to Alora with a warm smile. The information about her power was filed away into the back of Silas' mind. Okay. Don't scare her. Keep an eye on her. If ever there came a time when he did share his power with her, he needed to remember that. He'd also remember that she was partial to her hair, though she hadn't said it exactly. " Ah, I see. So, no nightmares. I'll remember,"he murmured. He didn't offer anything else; simply that. He would remember, and he would help her avoid a nightmare. He was painfully familiar with them himself. Kinkade smiled as she thanked him, feeling quite proud of himself. He stepped away, standing once more near Silas. He was glad to have helped her, but this was her doing, so it felt right that she should be the one to try turning it. Silas seemed to think the same thing, because he didn't move toward the door either. Silas watched with the same interest as before. He wrapped his arms around his friend in a loose hug, his chin resting on Kinkade's shoulder as he waited for Alora to do something remarkable. Again, he smiled as she fussed over whether or not she could do it, and what she'd do to make it up to them. " Relax, Alora."Silas warned absently. " It'll work." And, Silas believed it. He had no way of knowing, but he sounded as confident in his promise as ever. It made sense, though; what was the point of being negative, of thinking it wouldn't work when you had no idea? It just made the world a negative place. If you thought it'd work, and it worked, you could be a lot happier. No need to worry about setting one's hope too high, for they had nothing to lose.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
Alora gave a small smile, "Yes, I guess that is possible... I don't have any brothers or sister myself, but my parents did!" She told them lightly, not even thinking twice about using the past tense for her parents. "Well, I'm not really friends with them though. My uncles and aunts never really saw us when I was little, they were too busy." She didn't know why she was telling them this, but figured it might be good for conversation.
When Silas started to chuckle at her motions she found herself laughing a little as well, though she didn't really know why. Laughter was contagious, she supposed. Then he said he would try to be nicer, and Alora was afraid perhaps he didn't understand her point. "No, you don't need to be nicer! You're perfectly nice, I mean, we all have times when we say things we don't mean... I don't think you should be promising me anyway, because it's Kinkade you had spoken about..." She looked over to the blond boy, and the way Silas loosely hugged him. "You don't have any hard feelings anyway, right? It's no big deal.." She smiled.
"You mean you'll help me not have nightmares? See? You are really nice like I was saying!! Thank you!" She beamed as she said this, very happy indeed. Alora seemed to assume that was what he meant, although all that he had said was that he would remember. She always seemed to assume the best of people, though sometimes this wasn't very smart.
She looked back at the door and saw that no one else would open it. "I guess... I'll do it then..." She bit her lip and went down to the lock, her fingers around the new key... and...
Click
A surge of happiness ran through the girl as she felt the rush of success. She turned the knob of the door and then gave a hop into the air with enthusiasm. "I did it!!" She told them, as if they weren't there beside her to witness it themselves. "I made you a key!!" You'd think by looking at her that it was Christmas.

Silas && Kinkade a plate of quite peculiar on a dish of my own? a tablespoon of feather. The way she said did didn't seem to strike a cord with either boy at first. Did, as in they had siblings they grew up with. But Silas had a problem with her aunts and uncles not wanting to have anything to do with them.
"Mm, forget them,
"It was more like an order, but he meant it in her best interest, at least in his mind. " The people you need to worry about are the people in your life at the time, not the ones that don't care. You know, people have family friend's, just, focus on them." Kinkade had family issues himself; he had a hard time with his father who moved to America without him. He felt betrayed, so dealing with that was just part of knowing Kinkade. So to hear her mention that her family wasn't perfect, either, bothered Silas. " Do your parents tell you stories about your aunts and uncles?"Silas prompted curiously. His own parents certainly did. But he had a relationship with his aunts and uncles, so maybe that was the difference. Well. Silas just couldn't win. But somehow, that was just one more thing to find amusing. Say things he didn't mean? Oh, he meant it. Completely. He'd say it again. But no need to admit that. When she said it was Kinkade he should be promising to, he literally bit his lip to keep from laughing aloud. Promise Kinkade? Oh, he'd surely know it was a lie. Besides, Kin wasn't the one worried about it, as she went on to imply. Silas decided to just not say anything at all. " Sly has his own rules... He's not trying to be mean. When it counts, you forget about Sly's harshness, because he's really quite sweet."Kinkade explained passively, feeling the ball was passed to him when she said he didn't have any hard feelings. But she was right, of course he didn't. You couldn't. Not when you knew the dark haired boy like he did. That was the trouble with friends; once you knew then, you forgave them of far too many things. Or, well, that was Kinkade's problem. " Uhm, you're welcome..."Silas was a bit startled, but he figured if she said thanks, he should say she was welcome though he didn't think he did anything yet. And, well, he wasn't nice for that, because he had no real intention of following through without being prompted. Kins seemed to know this, because he jumped in. " Silas will. He enters people's dreams- like, he becomes part of it. Then he changes things, like buildings and people. He leads you through your dream, talks to you, keeps you safe. But you have to ask him after you wake up from one. He has to see you, to be near you when you sleep to enter your dream."Now Kinkade was proud to explain this. Silas was quiet, not adding anything, but avoiding the urge he surely had to hush Kinkade. Silas tightened his grasp on Kin, waiting patiently as Alora stepped forward to turn the key. It'd work, he assured himself. He was doing so not because he wanted to be inside (he still didn't care as he would be the first to assure you) but because she cared so much if she did it or not. " Good job!"Kinkade complimented excitedly," Thank you, Alora!" " Amazing,"Silas murmured, talking more to himself as he let go of Kinkade. In his mind, it was only fair to give Alora something in return for her kindness. She was willing to give them something if it didn't work, so he should give her something since it did. But what? He honestly didn't know yet. But he'd think of something grand. As he considered it, he walked over to Alora. " Alora, how long have you been able to do that? Use your power, I mean. Do you remember?"Silas questioned curiously. That earned him a sharp look from Kinkade, who would have preferred him to say thanks, not change the topic.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
Alora nodded in agreement with Silas, "Ya know, you're right. I should just keep my chin up!" She stated positively. The girl shook her head at his question, "Nope, my parents died, it was my grandma who told me stories about them." Her voice was surprisingly cheerful despite the news.
Realising they might be sad for her she piped up, "Don't worry though, I didn't know them anyway, I was really small. And granny was always so nice to me..." Speaking of her granny did bring a touch of sadness upon her face though. She kept forgetting what had happened before she left. She had a quiet moment of silence and realising this, perked up once more.
She believed Kin's words whole-heartedly. "I'm sure he is." She said, absently pointing her feet in different directions the same way a much younger child might. She looked at Silas after saying this with a kind of hope that it was. Then, she returned to changing her feets directions on her heels.
Taking the key out of the lock she handed it to Kinkade. "Here, you'll want to keep this safe!" She said to them. As the door was open, she couldn't help but to take a little glance inside. The format of the room was quite similar to hers, as a dorm was a dorm. It was fairly plain at the moment. It would be, wouldn't it, she thought to herself, what with it being empty right now.
"Me? Oh I gained my powers about four or five years ago. I hear most people get them a little younger than that, I guess I'm just a late bloomer." She gave a little shrug. "What about you and your impressive dream power? Or you with your, just as impressive emotion power~" She tilted her head as she asked the question.
She expected nothing in return for what she had done, and so felt no sense of missing anything when Silas changed the subject. All Alora hoped for was that she would make friends in this place. Remembering her last school was enough to keep her friendly towards her fellow pupils. "There! Now that that's done, do you need anything else?" She offered. Alora honestly hoped they'd say yes so that it would give her something to do. She was so awfully bored in her room, and classes haven't started on her curriculum yet.

Silas && Kinkade a plate of quite peculiar on a dish of my own? a tablespoon of feather. Her parents died? The news struck Kins the hardest, though her emotions didn't show any positive correlation between her words and what she had to say. There was more there, Kinkade was sure. Then there was emotion. Kinkade winced at the thought of her sad, at the feeling, even a hint, of her pain.
"I'm sorry,
"Silas insisted, though she tried to downplay the impact of her words. Silas didn't meet Alora's eyes when she gave her vote of confidence. But he was relatively relieved that she'd say it, anyway. Kinkade took the key happily, examining it curiously. Such a fascinating item. It was so odd to think it was once something so simple, so useless. Garbage, really. " I won't lose this one, promise,"Kinkade offered. To assure her of this, he clutched it tightly in his hand. Silas took in her answer, nodding. He was not particularly fond of her saying she was a late bloomer because, well, who's to say? There was no need to compare herself to anyone else. It didn't do any good, did it? But now wasn't the time to insist she always lift herself up, never giving any power or credit to even the smallest of slights. That was something he shared gradually. He did try to reason with her, though. " Well, something that remarkable takes time to develop, doesn't it?"Silas' tone made his words sound like it were an obvious fact. To her question, he smiled knowingly. This time he answered first. " It isn't something you stumble across, you understand. But I never really slept much, as a child Anyway, I'm not sure. I was pretty little. I don't know." " I don't know, either. It's hard to think of a time I didn't have it now. It's natural."Kinkade chimed in, trying to take the attention away from Silas as he sensed Silas' reserved mood setting in. Silas was thinking of something, Kin just didn't know what. Kin picked up his bag, carrying it into the room while Silas stayed near Alora. Silas wasn't going to keep her around if she didn't want to be there. He wasn't going to think of a silly reason no matter how fascinating she was. But maybe he could keep her around for a logical reason. " I just spent more hours than I want to keep track of with the blond empath. If you're not busy, you should stick around."Silas would have called Kin a mood ring, but that seemed a bit mean, so he kept it to himself. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
Alora gave a small smile at Silas' words. "Don't be sorry, It's nobody's fault." Her eyes turned to Kinkade's, and saw that he seemed unhappy. They didn't understand, she felt, that she didn't feel bad about her parents at all, but her grandmother was the one she mourned for. Though, it wasn't something she was going to mention if she wanted to lift their spirits.
She nodded to Kins, "You be sure not to! I don't know if I could do the same thing twice right." She laughed. Well, she hoped that she would. After all, she only came to this school to get better, right? Her cheeks went a pink color again when Silas complimented her power, a second time now.
"I don't know if it's that remarkable! It's not nearly as cool as emotions or dreams, it's just stuff!" She said in a humble way. "When I started changing objects at school, I thought that it was something everyone could do, at first. Like some unspoken fact of life." She watched at Kinkade took the bags into the room. She felt herself on her toes.
"I can help with that you know~" She said softly, before biting her lip for offering too much. Maybe I should just keep my mouth closed, they're perfectly able to take care of themselves... She thought.
Silas spoke again and Alora looked up at him. She beamed up at him, "Sure! I'd love to!" With a definite skip in her step, she walked past Silas into the room and sat on one of the two beds. "So where are you guys from anyway? You said a town, but not what town it was..." She wondered, having forgotten now that neither had she mentioned her home town.

Silas && Kinkade a plate of quite peculiar on a dish of my own? a tablespoon of feather. No one's fault? Well, if she insisted. He didn't believe her. Even if no one was to blame, it shouldn't have happened. But arguing about it wouldn't do anyone a bit of good.
"I'll be careful.
"Kinkade promised again with a quick nod. " It is remarkable. Don't sell yourself short. So many possibilities. All I can do is beat Freud at analyzing a person's id. But you, you can do anything. No one can keep you down. I mean, think about it. Get thrown in jail? Make a key. Nothing can stop you."Silas explained. Though he was downplaying his own power- something he wasn't particularly used to or fond of- it felt necessary in that moment. It wasn't really negative. Actually, if you tried hard, you could consider it positive. Silas had to keep himself from laughing at her offer. Right. Like he was going to ask her to help. It went against his personal morals to have a girl carry his bag when he was perfectly capable of it. Call it watered down chivalry, or even an odd personal pride if you will. Either way, she was not carrying his bags or Kinkade's. " No, we got it."Silas insisted. When she went past him, agreeing to hang out, he smiled and grabbed his bag before entering the room. Kinkade had set his suitcase against the far wall, next to a dresser. When she asked him where he was from, he grinned. " I'm from Paisley. It's a town in Scotland. But my dad moved to America so I visited every summer. He lives in South Carolina. That's how I met Sly. Now my dad has custody, and the school invited me, so here I am."Kinkade explained as he unzipped a portion of the suitcase with a few books and picture frames- things for the top of the dresser. " Mhmm,"Silas set his own suitcase next to Kins' before leaning back against the wall, his gaze on Alora. " Born and raised, South Carolina. But what about you? Where are you from, Alora?" [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
She looked at Kinkade with approval when he made his promise, keeping the key close to him. Well, she'd just have to trust him on that one. Alora turned to Silas and looked to the floor. After a moment of feeling quite shy and embarassed about the whole thing, a light smile, as always, crossed her face.
"Well, I mean... " She thought about what he had said for a moment, "Er, I could just change the bars of the prison door... or the wall... or the floor... Well..." She laughed at what she was saying, "I guess there are things I could do with my power- but just think! With dream powers you'd be a total master of night time! Could you like, make people sleep walk? Hey maybe you could use what you learn in a dream to make people think you're psychic in real life!! There's loads of opportunity with your power!" She grinned.
Although he may have felt it necessary to downplay his own power in the circumstance, Alora felt the opposite. She really didn't like when other people put themselves down, especially to lift her up. It made her feel a little guilty.
She watched the two bring in the bags and felt a little useless, just sitting there. Though, by the tone of voice Silas used, she was sure that it wasn't negotiable. "Well, if you're sure.., She mumbled, though, by the time she said so, they had already been brought in.
She turned to Kinkade and listened to him talking about his home town. "Wow! Scotland? That's so far away! This is my first time outside of America!" She smiled, then she heard that his parents were seperated. She had heard that was hard for kids, though she wouldn't know herself. She paused for a moment, not knowing what to say.
"Oh me?" She had been caught up in her thoughts, "I'm from Wisconsin. It's nowhere special. My granny and I lived in the country..." She said, her voice a little quieter now as she remenesced on her life only months previous. "I never thought, of all places, I'd go to the Bermuda triangle..." She gave a small smile, "I got an invite to the academy in the post." she explained.

Silas && Kinkade a plate of quite peculiar on a dish of my own? a tablespoon of feather. "Certainly, you could.
"Silas agreed with a nod. She could do anything. When she turned it back to him, he was mildly surprised, but not bothered. Could he make people sleep walk? What an odd thing. Technically, sleep walking happened in deep, non-REM sleep. In other words, it happened right after you fell asleep. He played a role in bringing people to REM sleep and keeping them there. If they were to sleep walk then their brain would have to be predisposed to it; it wasn't natural for a person not to be paralyzed during REM. " Mostly, I just hang out with you in a world you fabricate. If something goes wrong, I'll fix it. If something's scary, I'll change it. If you're lost, I'll find a way out. Y'know, just, stuff... I make your dreams happy. I can change things, but I don't unless I have to, because you have to learn to change it- I'm not always there."Silas clarified. It was probably good to get that out of the way now. " I don't really trick people- you can see me. You may not know if you're imagining me or not, but I'm there. I can't reallyl hide. Well, I could, but I wouldn't. Most people sense me. Like, they can tell I'm there, but they don't know who I am or why, or even what. It's just like- not a bad feeling, but a lack of loneliness. Like, sudden warmth. Sudden humanness." What was he saying? He didn't know. Silas quit talking, leaving it at that. Rambling like that wasn't really his thing. " Yeah, Scotland is pretty far away. But it's not terribly different... I miss it sometimes. I miss my mom."Kinkade admitted. He wasn't sad, but it wasn't exactly the best thing to admit. Silas wasn't making fun of him for it, though. " The country's beautiful. Peaceful."Silas murmured, his tone soothing. He didn't have to be an empath to realize that her grandma was a sad subject. But Silas wasn't direct about these things; if it came up in her dream, he was far more willing to discuss it than when they were awake. So for now he let it slide, not wanting to bring up something so troubling. " The Bermuda Triangle is definitely an interesting place for a school."Kinkade added helpfully, turning from his stuff before sitting, his back against the edge of the suitcase so that he was now facing Alora.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Alora ~Can't drain the ocean that keeps me out to sea Can't drain the stuff that's running all throughout me~
Alora didn't know about REM sleep, she hadn't really payed much attention during that day in science class at her old school. She wouldn't have know all about people having to be predispositioned for sleepwalking, so she just assumed it was all the same.
When Silas spoke in an explanation of his power, Alora listened attentively, hanging on to every word. She felt this information could be important later. "We have to control our own dreams?" She repeated in an somewhat airy way. She paused in thought, "So..." She pressed her finger to her chin, "Isn't there a word for that? Like Lactic or Lucrid or something?" She was looking for the word 'Lucid dreaming' but it didn't manifest.
When she heard that Kinkade missed his mom, she felt pretty bad for him. "Oh, it's alright, don't worry, I'm sure you can speak with you mom on the computer and everything! Send her emails and stuff like that!" She hoped that he would take her advice to heart, though he probably already has. She gave a smile and added, "Your accent is really cool though..."
She nodded, "Ya, the country is really peaceful, but it could be pretty isolated. I never really knew my neighbors, they were pretty far away, though... when we went into town there would always be someone my granny knew, and I knew them, too..." She laughed at Kinkade's next comment.
"Ya, living in the bermuda triange is real interesting! But I keep getting lost! I hope the stories aren't all true about the place, I'd hate for a plane to crash near us! That would be so sad!!" She looked forlorn at the thought.
((This is rough atm, i'm sorry I'm at an Internet cafe...))

Silas && Kinkade a plate of quite peculiar on a dish of my own? a tablespoon of feather. "Mhm, lucid,"Silas murmured. While she couldn't quite grasp the word, he had studied all that people thought they knew about dreams and sleep. He had nothing better to do than his own research with so much time on his hand. In fact, if he didn't have to sleep, why not read about sleep? It made sense to him. He could have added that no, not everyone managed to do it and no, it wasn't easy. But he could do it, of course, so he wanted to empower others. And some had done it, which was success to him.
"That's not a bad idea,
"Kinkade agreed cheerfully. Surprisingly, he hadn't yet. He'd called her, but e-mails and sending photos through the internet hadn't occured to him until then. " This is pretty isolated,"Silas responded, gesturing widely to the room though he was refering broadly to the Bermuda Triangle. His logic here was that she must feel this place was somewhat familiar in that regard. " Yeahh,"Kinkade agreed. Leave it to the empath to mimic her emotion and show sympathy and sorrow. Silas resisted the urge to roll his eyes. " The stories aren't true, no one's going to crash. They just don't want us found."Silas explained. He honestly had no idea- it wasn't like he was a sudden expert. But he figured if they were going to get upset about something that hadn't happened and might not happen, he could assure them that they'd be fine even though he had no idea. Kinkade seemed to take it to heart, cheering up rather quickly. " Is there anything interesting to do around here?"Kinkade suddenly prompted, talking to the two of them. Silas chuckled at the question. " They should hand out pamphlet's that list all the activities and locations upon arrival."He suggested, only to have Kinkade get an excited look, like the idea really was a brilliant one. (No worries <3 Sorry it took so long to reply; I was a bit busy with some activities in my town, then my dad wouldn't by the fan I needed for my computer, and I couldn't run it lest I burn the processor~)[/blockquote][/blockquote]
