Julia Dale strolled into Solstice Café, looking around at the outdoor seating. Palm trees encircled the perimeter. Arranged within these natural boundaries were the various tables, stools and chairs made of painted wood the colors of bright yellow and tropical blue. The hot sun sat low in the sky, illuminating the place with a brilliant orange hue and casting dark shadows. Students dotted this warm open area, chatting with friends and taking their evening rest after classes.
She felt her wallet in her jean pocket, and a sharp hunger in her stomach. She tugged at the bottom of her grey and patched hoodie, cutting in the line near to the front, despite complaints behind her. "Calm yourselves, not the end of the world." She shrugged to them, taking a sloppy joe on a plate, a bag of cheetos, and a plastic cup of coffee and placing them on a tray on the lunch-bar.
The person behind her hadn't seemed satisfied with her shrugging it off. One of those annoying 'upstanding citizens' she thought to herself as he blabbed about 'It's not right~ I won't stand for it~ Blah blah Messed with the Wrong blah~. Ace rolled her eyes, "Damn kid, you sure can talk," She mocked, smirking slightly, "But I see no action, do I?". The boy seemed a bit taken aback by her tone, and didn't take kindly to it at all. He took hold of her arm as if to redirect her to the back of the 'line' where she 'belonged'. Julia's eyebrows furrowed at this, and she grabbed his hand and wrenched it from her forearm, staring him in the eyes, refusing to be moved.
"Don't you, for one second, think I give a damn what you think, or what your principles are, you whiney little fuck." She told him, her nails digging into his skin, "All you and I really care about is getting our food. Right?" her nails dug deeper, and Julia almost took a kind of sadistic pleasure in it, releasing her anger. "I'm hungry, you know? Just let it go."
In retaliation to her grip, he stepped forward to push her back from him, and her tray became shoved against the serving counter against her back in such a way that the sloppy joe plate slid up to squash the sandwich against her. The slop was on her jumper, her coffee falling to the ground, burning her leg in the process. Julia's mouth gaped open and she released her grip. "You... asshole!" After a pause she saw him back up, snickering at the incident, along with others around the lunch room that had seen the commotion.
Julia's mouth closed and a determined expression to regain her dignity covered her face. There seemed to Julia an obvious way to do this- kneeing the guy in the crotch when he was least expecting it. Very 'Dignified'. "That's what you get for getting food on my clothes you little bitch!" She said to him as he was doubled over in pain. Feeling slightly better, she arrived at the checkout, people around the court glancing at her for the scene she had just caused. Others got up and helped the guy she had kneed, glaring at her as they did so. She watched from a distance, alone, as she could only expect. Well, at least... She couldn't finish whatever positive thought had almost reached her consciousness. "I hate new places..." She muttered instead as she reached for a new lunch and paid the lunch lady (who honestly didn't care about the incident).
Giving a sigh, Julia went to find a table somewhere away from the general masses, though it couldn't be helped if someone was already sitting there. She took a free chair at that table without asking permission, and started into her food, trying not to look her new company in the eye in case they could read minds or something invasive like that. Julia didn't even look to see who it was. She could only hope that they hadn't noticed the scene, or better yet say nothing at all- but knew that was a long shot.

Mrs. Ze was at the back of the cafiteria space, where she had a good view of everything that happend in the aria. She watched the whole scene where the girl who was now sitting across from her, cut in line, got in to an argument, dropped her food allover her and then kneed the idiot boy in the crotch. That part made Ze chuckle as she sipped at her large bottle of water with the bendy straw in it.
She watched as the young girl approched the table and grumpily sat down. Ze starred at her wide eyed and unblinking and sipping from the floresent colored straw. The girl had stringy blond hair and quite nice legs, she looked abit like her eldest daughter Evangeleine. 'Firey temper too' it made her laugh.
"Hello" she said to the girl after a while of stareing at her. "You missed my class today miss Julia" she stated.

At the sound of her name, Ace's head jerked up to look at her company. A teacher, by the looks of it- she looked a bit too old to be a student. Not to mention the use of the term 'my class'. Oh crap. She's psychic. She breathed in slightly and looked the white-haired teacher in the eyes. Might as well, she already knew her name, she thought. "Nothing I can do about that now, is there." She replied, giving a shrug, "I'd really prefer if you call me Ace... What class was it anyway? Mind-reading?" Her tone was slightly bitter, obviously still feeling burned, both literally and figuratively.
She took another bite of her sloppy joe, and wiped the remnants from her lips to her sleeve. After a small pause she decided to speak up, "Look. Sorry, It was just school, er, class. I didn't even keep the piece of paper they sent... When is it anyway?" Julia kept to herself that she had looked at the paper blankly when she'd gotten it and thrown it away straight after, as it all looked like gibberish to her.

Ze let out a laugh, "No no it was mind reading class, it was just ethics..it was this morning at 8 o'clock. Your name is Julia Dale and you are a new student starting last week." she said handing Ace a napkin. "Do you want one for you back too?" she asked craning her neck over to see the greasy stain on the the lower back of her shirt. "You still have some tomato sauce on it" she said with a light smile.
Ace's bitter tone didn't phase the woman, "The paper they gave you was your schedule, with the class, teacher time and room number, you threw it away didn't even bother to learn your classes? How do you expect to stay here if you don't try? is it that your not used to school, have you ever actually been to school before in your life. If not then I'm afraid we might have to put you through grade school before you can reach your upper level classes." she said braiding her white hair back and opening up her tin lunch box and taking out a tuna salad sandwich. "I would have killed to go to a proper school when i was your age, instead there was this whole think about becoming a proper woman and learning how to sew and cook and be a proper wife. Ugh..proper...such a nasty condescending word." She went in to her own thoughts for a moment giving the table a strange long unblinking look as her brain scanned over her vast past experiences. "Just be glad you weren't born in the Victorian era, or anything before the nineteen eighty's."

"Yeah, that is my name... But still, I like Ace better..." She said, her sentence growing quieter as she said it. She tried to keep that in mind. 8:00. Right. She might remember it later, if she felt like waking up early. The woman commented on her hoodie. "Oh. That..." She gave a frustrated sigh and snatch the napkin she offered, reaching behind her back and rubbing at the stain ineffectually. "Stupid guy, whoever he was..." She mumbled, as if trying to justify her actions.
The woman then spoke to her in a tone Julia didn't really like. Sophisticated, sure, but she didn't like what her words implied. Have you ever actually been to school before? Ace's face went red at the accusation, holding her breath. Damn psychic mind-reading- "Grade school?! Are you fucking kidding me? No way in hell." She crossed her arms.
How do you expect to stay here if you don't try? Ace's face went even redder. "Look, it's not that I don't... try..." She tried to find some other reasonable excuse. What could she say? She hadn't realized the paper was that important at the time. "I mean, I'm here to learn more about my powers right? Isn't this place supposed to be a solace for kids with our 'condition'?! I didn't know someone's supernatural development," She was surprised she'd used such a big word, "Depended on how many pieces of paper we hoarded or schedules we learned." Julia scoffed. As for 'Victorian Era'? Ace didn't know what she was talking about, or who she was referring to.

Ze let out a sigh as Ace began to flare up on her. "Ace, calm down, if you've never had an education, then we would have to start with the basics, and yes you are here to devolpe your powers, but also to become a functioning person of society." She said in a calm cool manner, Ace wasnt the first person to have her type of personality. Some one who shot in head first with out thinking, and seemed to mess up alot or just not care.
She handed ace a peice of paper "This is your schedule, you need to come to classes or you will be expelled and brought back to the states, please remember that." she said in a sympathetic tone. "and there is no need to flare up like that you will only alert others to your flaws that you are so desperately trying to hide...Here, i will tutor you in the basics till you reach the adequate level that you need to be for highshcool and college and while you are doing that you can also take your current classes how does that sound?" Ze asked her tilting her head, she did desperately want to help the poor disillusioned delinquent. "So are you going to agree to this or not?" she asked rasing an eye brow.

"Functioning person of society?" Ace raised her eyebrow, honestly believing this person to be telling a bad joke. "You're seriously barking up the wrong fuckin' tree lady. I don't even know who you are." She shook her head. Julia watched as the woman reached into a bag and pulled out the schedule. She found it somewhat disturbing that she had this prepared in case someone needed it. She took the paper offered to her uncertainly.
She took another glance, as if anything would change, and the symbols printed on it would suddenly change into something understandable. Nothing happened. She couldn't be expelled. She needed to find Claudia in this goddamn island, and get a goal in life. Getting sent back... Back where? She had no home, would they just take her to a random airport and leave her on her merry way? They couldn't do that to her, she wouldn't allow it.
You will only alert others to your flaws that you are so desperately trying to hide... Ace glared at the teacher. A million horrible things to say came to her mind but she remembered the threat of expulsion. She thought she might get away with at least one, and opened her mouth to say it- but she interrupted her with an offer. Teach her personally? "...." She thought for a moment about it, but despite her every fiber looking for one, she couldn't find a flaw in this plan. "Fine." She said reluctantly, turning away from the teacher so she might not see her face. "As long as you don't tell anybody." She turned back to her and glared as if this little teenage girl would put up any kind of a fight to the nearly immortal master.

Ze gave a wide grin. "Ok good, i wont tell anyone, and by the look on your face you still don't under stand your schedule do you?" she gave a laugh and took the paper agin, "alrighy, this is your class, history, math, science, ethics, english, and your extracarricular" she said pointing each one out. A relisaion came to Ze and she looked up at Ace for a moment and then back at the scedual.
Soon Mrs. Ze opend up her pack and then pulled out another peice of paper. "here is a map and i will color code it so you can find your classes at the right time... Becuse you cant read can you Ace.." she said with a serious note "well this is a bit worse than i thought" she said blinking.

Ace listened to her tell her her schedule, nodding at appropriate times, trying to memorize it simply by her voice telling her, as she was used to doing. Then the teacher paused and she wondered what she was thinking. After returning from her back, Mrs. Ze gave Ace the map, and Julia's eyes went down to it and understood the shapes of the buildings and landmarks.
Because you can't read, can you Ace... Julia's heart beat a little faster, and her usual defenses came up, "Of course I can read," She laughed, as though she must have been kidding... but then she saw the serious look on her face and stopped the fake laughs. "... Ok. Look, It's... Not a huge deal anyway, don't look at me like I'm a zombie or something, It's fine..." She gave a half-grin, as though trying to pass it off as nothing major. "I've gotten by fine without books and shit so far, haven't I?"

Ze smiled to her warmly, "Well your going to need to learn how to read, even if you some how got by with out it." she said as she fished around in her bag for a few other things. "Lets see, what involves reading...bathrooms, driving, well all basic and general information actually, like what if something doesn't have a picture for you to learn off of. what do you do? ignore it or have one of your famous temper tantrums?" she asked finally finding out a book that looked like it was for babies.
"And im guessing you don't know math ether, and you like money right? with out math you wont know how much you have, how much you can spend and what not. we can learn with that..oh and math you can have an increased potential to winning card games as well. And then there is science..cooking, dying your hair, and it goes on and on." she said twirling her finger, "You don't have to be wary of me or fight me, you can trust me. I am truly here for your best interests, unfortunately that means i will never give up on you." she grinned at the girl "Ill also teach you some bad-ass combat too" she winked, "We can call that a Physical Education basic." she laughed.
Mrs. Ze loved to talk, and loved conversations and helping people, that was just the way she was. She knew Ace would be difficult but she already liked the girls spunk. "Also try and make a couple of friends, but you have already met the new student Syron, Here is another list of people that are compatible to you." She handed Ace another peace of paper with the images of other students.

Ace scoffed at first, "I don't need to know how to read!" She announced, though in a lower voice so that people mightn't over hear her. She didn't want people knowing she had a weakness like that, but with Mrs. Ze, well, she was psychic, or so Ace thought. Some things were unavoidable. "And I do know math... I can count all the way to 10. I even know some of the alphabet. That's enough to keep me going..."
She glared at the teacher as she mentioned her famous 'temper tantrums'. "You know, you really act like you're so much better, just because you have all that fucking knowledge shoved up your ass. Just 'cause you can read and write and all that, you think you're great." She scowled. Despite her tough words, Ace would still do what the lady said. Why? Because. She needed to stay on this island, that's why.
Her eyes continued their menacing stare for a moment after the paper was handed to her, but she pulled her gaze away as a way of conceding that she would win anyway. The faces looked totally random to her, though some of them looked like prats already, and she hadn't even met them yet.
"You don't have to be wary of me or fight me, you can trust me. I am truly here for your best interests, unfortunately that means i will never give up on you."
Ace blinked at her, and started to laugh aloud. "Really? No really... That's the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard. You get paid, you're not in it for anyone's interest but your own. Sure I don't have to fight against ya, but..." She grinned for a moment, "Where would the fun be then? And be honest, we all know you'll give up on me. It'll happen eventually, it always does... Just give it time." The bitterness in her tone tripled in that line, but it wasn't directed at her.
"But ya, I'd love to learn to kick more ass. That's a subject that's actually useful." She smirked.

Ze let out a long sigh, she had to approach the Ace differently. She was quiet for a long moment, recalling everything ace said to her. "Knowlage shoved up my ass...well fuck you." She said perceiving her lips and glaireing back at the girl. "I dont even have to do this, no one asked me, im not being payed for this, you need this thats why im doing this. You need the education and this island or you will be just some low life punk getting around on whoring your self and stealing from others. In the end with out this, you will be nothing and noone not even your lame powers could help you." Ze said this coldly her eyes turning an ice blue and her stature staying straight up. She knew she would burn up Ace's temper, but hopefully this would some how get through to her.
"So, littel miss i dont care about shit, you can ether leave this island or you can shut up, stop fighting and get your basics done. You are not a bad ass, you are not the fucking shit you are a kid who needs help, and with that help become amasing. But sence you refuse to see that i suppose i will leave now." she said as she stood up and began walking out of the room. The whole cafiteria ice over in Ze's anger.

Ace listened to Ze curse for the first time. Her eyebrows raised in surprise. She wasn't angry at that as much as she was shocked that she had said it. You need this. Well, Julia knew that, she knew that she needed Solstice, well, more specifically she needed Claudia, or so she thought.
You'll just be some low life punk getting around on whoring yourself and stealing from others. Julia's jaw actually dropped a little at that. Now the anger was starting to kick in. "Wait one fucking se-" But Ze continued, You will be nothing, and no one, not even your lame powers, could help you." Ace felt her face go red, but for once she was out of comebacks. She opened her mouth but nothing came out.
Julia couldn't leave the island. The other option? Well, she didn't like it, but Julia became even more flabbergasted as the teacher continued in her icy tone. "You are not a bad ass, you are not the fucking shit, you are a kid who needs help, and with that help become amazing." Then, the teacher rose and started walking away. Ace opened and closed her mouth like a fish.
A dose of her own medicine, and it worked. Ace rose out of her own seat as well after a moment of defrosting from her paralysis. "Wait up-" She followed her, stepping on the ice and causing the thin layers to crack. She wondered where the ice had come from, but felt that it had something to do with the psychic teacher, just as a guess. "I'm-... You don't get it..." When she caught up with the teacher she turned towards her, "I... do see it... It's just..." She scratched the back of her head awkwardly, "Look... I'm sorry... okay? I... just..."- Julia sighed.
"When will we start..."

Ze gave a smile as the turned slightly to face the girl. "We start tomorrow." she said in a a clam voice. She was glad her method worked on Ace, this way she could get close to the girl and find out why she was actually here and what she had to do with the other two hydrokenitics on the island. "I want to see you in this room at 10:30 in the morning." she said marking it in a different color on Ace's map. "Ok?" she gave a nod.
In the corner of her eye she watched a boy fall and slip on a piece of ice. It was the same boy who gave ace gripe earlyer and allowed her to be humiliated by food. Now the boy's food was all over him and his drink spilled across his crotch making it look like he peed. Not that Ze had any thing to do with the liquid. She gave a small chuckle and strutted out of the room in her usual high class fashion.

Ace looked at the colored map to where she marked out and gave a small sigh. "Alright then. I'll be there." She said, looking to the floor as she said so. Then, Ze started to walk away again. Ace just stood there watching her go while holding the map in her hand. She turned at the sound of the guy falling and smirked to herself. serves him right. She thought, though she knew her powers probably had a part to play without her realizing it. After snickering a little at the sight, she turned her head back to where the teacher had been- but she was gone.
Julia looked back at the seat she had been sitting at, with her half eaten sloppy joe and chips- but she wasn't hungry any more. She turned up to the sky for a moment in thought, before looking towards the exit and deciding to go back to her dorm. She had a feeling tomorrow was going to be a long day...
