Name:
Alora Mae Darcie
Age:
14
Appearance:
Alora has long dark hair down to her lower back, and a straight fringe cut at eyebrow level. She has a childish face with large doe-like brown eyes, a button nose and a small mouth. Alora's complexion is slightly tanned, with an asian hue. She is short in stature, standing in around 4'11". Alora has a petite frame and dresses it casually in cute frilly blouses and floral maxis which make her look even smaller as they tend to bundle around her feet. Her fashion sense is a bit dated as she took her grandmother as her role model. She decorates her hair with exotic flowers she picks, colorful hairpins or her favorite red hair-band which can be seen tied at a bow at the top of her head.
Personality:
The majority of the time she is a charming, cute girl with boundless energy and a big smile. Alora makes friends easily and doesn't seem to be afraid of anything. She enjoys learning new things, and tends to try her best at all she does.
Her powers are fairly weak and she has to focus to change objects brought before her. In any tight situation though it's as if she becomes a different person and switches on 'serious' mode. She's very creative in how she uses her powers, and is clever about making and avoiding traps for any opponents she might have.
Alora is nearly impossible to get mad, but this can be achieved by endangering her or her friends. Alora can't stand the sight of a 'bad person' and tends to stand up for what she believes is 'right'. She is deeply afraid of being disregarded, although she is conscious of her weak power, she hates to be brushed off and not taken seriously.
Despite all her strengths she does have serious weaknesses. When in a bubbly mood it is very difficult for her to use her power as it requires focus. Being a small girl, she is physically weak and is sensitive to pain. Being childish can annoy the more serious type of person, and this can get her into trouble also.
Power:
Alora can change one object into another object. However, this power doesn't effect anything with a soul. e.g. she cannot change a dog into a car, or vice versa. It does not matter the size of the object before or after, she can, for example, change a leaf into a table using her power. She cannot work with air or on a strictly molecular level either. Alora herself isn't very good at this power, and has to apply a lot of effort and concentration for there to be a successful outcome.
History:
Alora is an orphan. Her parents left her with her grandmother, her father's mother, before going on a holiday when she was about a year old. While on vacation her parents were in a car accident, and her grandmother offered to take care of her. Although she has aunts and uncles on her mother's side, they hadn't enough room or simply couldn't take the financial burden of another child.
Growing up with her grandmother was fine for Alora though. Her grandmother had a problem with her knee, so she would always help around the house as a child, and in exchange her granny baked sweets and shared old stories. Alora was a very happy child, having no memory of her parents she found she didn't miss them.
At the age of about 5, she began primary school, and at first wasn't good at making friends, finding herself too nervous to approach the other kids. She created an imaginary friend, as children do. This friend of hers was named Darva, and was really funny, though Alora thought she sometimes went a bit too far with her pranks, and even got Alora into trouble. She tried to tell the teacher that it was Darva's fault that the paint got all over teacher's clothes, that they were just playing around, but the teacher didn't believe her. She said Darva didn't exist.
Her grandmother told her that this was a phase that most children go through, but said that she should try not to play with Darva anymore, and try talking to the other kids at school instead. Alora tried to stop playing with Darva alright, because she didn't want to get in trouble... But Darva didn't want her to stop playing. Alora started to ignore her then, and talked to the other kids, but she just kept hearing Darva throwing a tantrum in her mind. Alora said nothing about it. Eventually, Darva disappeared.
Alora became very sociable with the girls in her class, and had many friends. When she turned 10 years old though, all this changed. Her powers started to develop then, and at school she could be found changed her pencil into a pen and then a marker and then a ruler and back again for entertainment in class, twirling it between her fingers as she did so. The 'normal' kids in her class were afraid of her then and stopped talking to her, and Alora was left alone.
Because of her history of pranking, it became easy to blame Alora for things the other students did, because she was 'unusual'. Alora tried to stand up for herself but no one would believe her, and she was labeled a freak. The pranks got out of hand and eventually the incidents became so severe that Alora was expelled from her school at the age of 12.
Her grandmother was becoming very feeble in her old age, but agreed to teach her at home, and Alora was very relieved that she didn't have to be in her old class any more. Then, one day after lessons, the postman came to the door and dropped in a letter addressed to Alora. This letter was an invitation to Solstice Academy, and Alora discussed it with her grandmother. Her grandmother said that it would be best for her, but that she would hate to see her go. Alora sent a reply agreeing to enroll with her grandmother's help.
Months passed, and Alora was now 13. It was a few months before the plane ride to florida, after that she would take a boat ride from the floridan coast with other to-be students, the crewmen having powers as well to steady the tides and ensure they arrived into the bermuda triangle safely. Alora was looking forward to traveling. She hadn't been outside America before, and had only ever seen postcards of places like the De Leon.
Alora's grandmother took a fall only weeks before the voyage while getting out of the shower. While Alora called for the Ambulance, her hands had been shaking. She wrapped her grandmother in a big towel, and watched as the paramedics lifted the unconscious old woman up and carried her away. Alora waited in the hospital for days. Her granny had knocked her head pretty bad. Her aunts and uncles arrived to her bedside. Alora hadn't seen them for years.
The Funeral was the week before her voyage. Alora had cried so hard, she could barely hear the priest giving the blessing. Afterwards, at the reading of the will, Alora learned she had inherited a lot of money from her grandmother, while an uncle gained the house. He looked after her the week before the plane ride, and drove her to the airport with her carry-on bag. After an awkward hug goodbye, Alora had to turn away from her entire life and towards her new future. Honestly, Alora didn't feel 'special' or 'privileged' like the brochure said. As she dried her tears during the plane ride, and felt the jerking of the plane at lift off and her heart skipped, she felt far more 'Human' than she ever did 'Super'.
