Name: Ceobhraneala or Ceo
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Teacher? (Include Subject): No
Powers and Descriptions: Ceo listens to plants. She hears the very essence of them, and from that is able to figure out their properties as well as their personalities. They are her closest companions. She also has a connection with animals, though it isn't nearly as extensive. While she can meld her consciousness with a plant, she cannot do so with an animal. However she can take an animal's shape, but she usually only does this by accident.
Personality: She has extreme mood-swings caused by her past. One moment, she'll be childish, playful, but very shy. The next, she will be as quiet and still as if she had just sprouted roots. She doesn't say much, and typically avoids people, particularly those larger than she is. She is easily startled, and does not like to be touched.
Appearance: She has a rather long and lanky body that doesn't seem to fit her properly. Her hair is long and russet colored, much like autumn leaves, and curls wildly around her. Her eyes are very dark, almost black, and her skin is almost luminescent. She looks underfed, almost unhealthy, and feral at times. Her clothes look as if she simply found them one day, and has been wearing them ever since. They are loose fitting, and leave little of her revealed. Her hair does the rest. She does not like the idea of people being able to see her.
History: Ceo was born in Ireland, and at the age of 6, she was at school one day playing hide and seek with her friends. She had rushed to the back of the school to a small clearing of old Oak trees, determined to find a proper hiding place befitting for one small adventurer such as herself. She had always had a gift with plants and animals. They both fascinated her, but plants in particular had a way of keeping her attention. Her mother had often found that the only way to keep Ceo quiet for any period of time was to stick a potted plant under her nose. She would stare at it for hours, and when asked why she did so, she would simply say "I'm listening." Her mother dismissed this as childish fancy, and used the long periods of silence to do work around the house.
But in fact, Ceo was listening, and she heard incredible things that her child's mind could not begin to comprehend, and likely her mother's mind couldn't have either. And on that particular day, the Oaks called to her, and urged by her need to hide, she went to them, and she listened. And as she listened, she did something that she had never thought to do before. She asked them something. She asked if they might have a place for her to hide for awhile. And as she opened her mind to them one step further, she completely lost sight of her own self as the Oak's self took over. Her consciousness melded with the aged tree, and she felt herself fade into Oak. Then she was gone.
About 40 years later, an old man was walking by the abandoned school, near the back by the old Oaks. He whistled the refrain of an old lullaby that his mother had sung to him when he was a child. It happened that Ceo's mother had sung the same tune, and upon hearing it, Ceo's mind began to stir deep within the Oak. Slowly, with the long and cumbersome movement of the Oak's mind, Ceo began to remember herself. It was 10 years later when, with a mind-numbing wrench, Ceo burst from the tree and onto the ground. However, she no longer had the body of a 6 year old. She looked nearly 18, and the clothes she had been wearing at 6 certainly did nothing to cover her now. She had aged inside of the tree at the same rate that a tree ages. Her body had been sustained within the tree for 50 years, and she had grown with it. Her mind was caught between the slow ponderous thoughts of the Oak and the Earth, and the confused fluttering thoughts of a 6 year old human child.
She did the only thing any lost little girl would do. She ran for home, trying to remember how to call for her mother, how to say anything, but the human language that she had barely known before was slow to come back to her, so all she could utter was a wordless cry of desperation. She got lost several times. Everything had changed. But eventually, she found her way back to her house.
There was another family there. Her own was nowhere to be found. Her mother and father, brothers, all were gone. She raced to the front of the house, gasping, and finally, words came. A matronly woman was standing, and staring at the scantily-clad-wild girl in utter shock. Ceo haltingly said, "M..Moth...Mother! Here? Wh...where?! Used t..to l...li..live h..here. Where are they?" The last words she got out clearly, such was her panic.
The woman went from shocked to concerned, and tried to make sense of what the girl had said. She remembered a time when a different family had lived in that house. There had been a very sad old woman whose daughter had disappeared, and whose sons had all gone out into the world, and whose husband had died shortly after in an accident. The old woman had gotten very sick, and died herself, and was now buried next to her husband in the town cemetery. All of this she told the strange girl as she ushered her inside, gave her tea and food, and washed and clothed her. Ceo was completely exhausted from her efforts, and shocked at the news of her family. She had to remember how to eat and drink, and this, too, sapped at her strength. She no longer said anything to the woman. She did not even offer a word of thanks.
The woman asked all kinds of questions. Was she a relative of theirs? A granddaughter perhaps? Where did she live? What was her name? What on earth had happened to her? But Ceo was deaf to all of it. She simply pulled on the over-sized clothes, and collapsed into the bed that the woman showed her to.
The next morning, Ceo woke up, and left the house that she had spent the first 6 years of her life in, never to return. She ran through the old forest, the only thing that was still the same after all of that time. Eventually, she came to the sea, and it was there that she fell to her knees and let out another wordless cry, this time of rage. Why? she kept thinking. That was as far as she got in her thoughts. Her voice may have ceased its creaky cries, but her mind was still shouting for all it was worth. Why, why, why, WHY? Finally, she managed to think one more coherent word, and her mind cried it out in the most plaintive and pathetic voice imaginable. Help. She was answered.
Off the coast, a pod of dolphins had been swimming, and upon hearing this cry for help, they were inexplicably drawn to it. They came to the beach where Ceo sat crying, and they chattered at her, and asked her where her fins had gone. Was that why she was sad? Did she need help finding them? They began casting about aimlessly in the water of the beach, perhaps searching for fins. And as their thoughts intruded into her scattered ones, she began to lose sight of herself once more. This time, however, she did not meld with a dolphin. Her connection to animals was not strong enough to do that. Instead, she became one; a small confused female dolphin that the others gladly welcomed into their family. The males thought her quite the catch.
So, she set out with them. She was lost in the dolphin shape, and it caused her to be extremely submissive to the others. The males quickly began taking advantage of her confused state. She was defenseless against them. She was raped by them repeatedly. They were much larger than she was, and she had no idea what to do, so she tolerated it for months, and distracted herself with the plant-life of the sea. She listened, and learned much, but eventually, her human shame at being used by the males won over.
They had been traveling in the Atlantic Ocean, near the Bermuda Triangle when all of the males got into a violent fight about who would get to use her that night. They all fought, and it promised to be long and deadly. She took her chance, and escaped. She crawled onto the shore of an island, human once more, and wearing the same clothes that the older woman had given her. She stared around her, and saw no humans, no animals, nothing. Just a deserted shore. She was relieved. However, the island had a certain aura about it. It was this that drawn her to that particular isle, but she had no idea what it was. Exhausted from her transformation, and from the long months of abuse, she curled up, and went to sleep.
