(OOC Note: This thread takes place before Arrivals)
It was roughly ten past eight when the voice of the captain buzzed through the intercom, announcing the 'swift and expedient arrival of this fine overnighting ferry to the prestigious academy'. He was apparently a very optimistic man, because when Gabrielle reached the main deck twenty minutes later, her suitcase in her left hand and both sword and violin cases tucked under her right arm, she couldn't even see land.
She cursed under her breath and tossed the suitcase under a nearby bench that, she decided, had probably been put there just for people who the captain had woken up early. The other two cases she treated with a little more care, putting them on the bench beside her as she sat down. Then she sprawled back in the seat, tilting her head back so she could keep an eye on the door behind her and make sure the other passengers (if there were any) couldn't sneak up on her from behind.

Groaning as the intercom blared through his eardrums and forced him awake, Rusty 'Rust' Kekise looked with bleary eyes towards his own alarm clock. He stared, rubbed his eyes and stared again. 8:10 am? Bloody hell, that was early...and he hadn't even started at the school yet! Letting out a mournful moan at his soon-to-be gone for good lie ins, the teen headbutted his pillow as he flopped back onto the bed.
The alarm buzzed not five minutes later. Fate, it seemed, had decreed that yes, Rust would be getting up and getting up NOW.
"Christ on a bike, fine..."
Fifteen minutes later, dressed in a simple casual outfit and all his stuff packed in an oversized gym bag, Rust made his way up on deck. And saw no land whatsoever.
"You have GOT to be freaking kidding me..." he muttered, shaking his head. "Just my terrible luck."
Looking up, he saw that one other had managed to drag themselves from their bed at the captain's request. Well, might as well make conversation whilst that blind jackass who called himself their captain tried to find a spot of yellow on the blue horizon.
"Hey there." he waved, wandering over slowly, just about holding back a yawn. He slung the bag underneath the bench, same as this girl's suitcase. "Glad to see I'm not the only one who got up. Was not looking forward to twenty minutes at ocean watching."
Grinning a little, he extended a hand forward at the girl.
"Rusty Kekise. Call me Rust, honestly prefer it."

Gabrielle sat forward, though still with a slouch, and shook his hand firmly, perhaps slightly too strong.
"Gabrielle Viaris. Don't call me Gabby." she said. Her voice was low, slightly husky with a faint Italian accent. She put the cases under the seat with her suitcase and moved over slightly.
"You want to sit, I take it?"

Woah...helluva grip on this one.
Nodding at the girl, Rust replied.
"Eh, I'll stand for now I reckon. If I lean against something or sit down, I'll fall asleep again." he explained, held back yawn still threatening to emerge. "Nice to meet you anyway, Gabrielle."
Stretching out his arm, still stiff from the way he had slept, the teen looked out to the ocean view.
"He could have let us know when the place was actually in sight..." he griped to the dark haired girl. "Seems like a bit of a waste of time to get us up this early when there's nowt to do."
Rust looked back at Gabrielle.
"So...how did you find out about this place?"

"It's complicated. Kind of a school thing, kind of a... police thing." she mumbled, looking sheepish.
"It was this, or some kind of gaol for other people's protection and I figured a fancy education never hurt." she said, shrugging, then quickly added, "I'm not a killer! Just-just saying. I didn't hurt anyone that bad. It's a preventative, not because I, y'know, did..."
She stopped and facepalmed. "I'm going to shut up now."

Rust's eyebrow raised higher and higher on his face as Gabrielle went on and on, digging herself in deeper and deeper. At the end, he just gave up and laughed at her lame finish.
"Yeah, you'd end up in China at the rate you're digging yourself into a hole," the teen chuckled, shaking his head as he did so. Still, she raised a point...was she really that dangerous?
Be honest. At first look, you probably don't look that dangerous either.
Rust decided to reply.
"Well, was mostly a decision made by my mom. We're...not too popular back home and rather than risk a public school, we found out about this place. Cost a pretty penny to set me up completely, but hell, so long as I'm going somewhere where I don't have to watch out for some dumbass kid who wants to try and force something out of me he shouldn't."
He grimaced. He hadn't meant to do that to the guy, but Rust hadn't exactly been thinking straight. He could share Gabrielle's sentiments on that one. A quick sigh and Rust was immediately back in top form.
"Guessing we're the only two up..."

"Might be the only two going." she said, grateful for the subject change. "I mean, folks like me-like us hardly make up that much of the population."
She looked around. "Still, a boat this big? It looks like this school either got a lot more students, or is expecting some mad rush. Or maybe the captain is just a godamn lunatic who got the biggest floating tin he could afford. You sure you're not going to sit?"

"Yeah, you've got a point there actually." Rust admitted. "Still you would have thought there'd be more people coming over at one time. Unless we're stragglers or something."
He barked a laugh at her jab at the captain.
"Y'know, I wouldn't put it past him. He seems a little too keen for everything, doesn't he? Waking us up early, grabbing biggest boat he could find...reckon we'll get a brass band as an entrance into the dock? With a twenty one gun salute?"
Rust shrugged at her next question. "Y'know what, might as well. Though if I fall asleep and start drooling, tell me. Looks massively uncool and I'd be damned if I made myself look like an idiot just yet."

"Oh, probably, if he doesn't have a parade out for us. A couple of elephants, a few dancing girls and all that. Or is that a circus?"
She shook her head. "Doesn't matter. And don't worry about looking uncool. You're already way past that point." she said, then grinned.
As far as grins went, it wasn't exactly the nicest. Gabrielle had a wide mouth that had a tendency to go crooked when she smiled, and even if it had been straight, it still showed a lot of sharp teeth that stood out even more when contrasted with her tan skin.

Giving a mock pout as he sat himself down, Rust folded his arms in a pretend huff.
"And here I thought we could be friends, Gabrielle. For shame. I might never forgive you for this grave insult against my magnificent visage." he joked, still trying to keep up the haughty expression and failing miserable.
Still...hell of a set of pearly whites on her...and kinda sharp....probably her 'thing'.
Stretching out on the bench slightly, Rust rotated his wrists a few times, getting the circulation going. The yawn he'd been trying to hold in finally was released, long and loud into the world.
He blushed slightly.
"...shaddap. I normally get up at 10 am when I don't have anything in the morning. Mornings are NOT my thing."

Gabrielle moved over again as he sat down, leaving him with most of the bench, and her almost off the edge. She started jogging her knee up and down, then abruptly jammed her elbow on top of it, keeping it from moving,
"Well, you're a wuss then." she said promptly, acting as if she was being completely normal. "At home, I'd get up at seven AM just to make everyone else breakfast."
She grinned again. "And then, I'd walk to school barefoot, uphill both ways with a sack of coal for lunch."

Rust grinned. He knew this routine.
"Oh yeah? I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work for twenty nine hours a day at mill and pay the mill owner for permission to come to work and when we got home, our mom would kill us and dance about on our grave singing Hallelujah!" he finished with a flourished bow. Returning to a regular sitting position, the teen laughed aloud.
"4 Yorkshiremen sketch. True classic if there ever was one." he complimented her comedy knowledge. "Man, and here I thought I'd get stuck with some stick in the mud for my first meeting. Good to find someone with a sense of humour, at least."
Maybe this whole thing wouldn't be so bad?

Rust blinked, then shook his head.
"Not studying...well...I wasn't until I signed up to this place." he shook his head. "Left school earlier than normal because we were having trouble getting the bills paid and Mom needed me to bring some income into the household. So, I got a job at a mechanic's for a few years. Y'know...cars and stuff like that. Helping out, picking up a few skills, that sort of thing."
He looked at his hands slightly.
"Anyway, ended up with a lucky windfall and here I am."
Rust looked at her again, facing her fully.
"Yourself?"

"Kind of similar to yours." she said, "Well, I didn't leave school, but that's because papa wouldn't let me, but" she laughed a little, "I had a job as an undertaker. Face like mine needs to be kept in the dark, y'know? So I dug the graves, helped transport coffins, that kind of thing."
She shrugged."Besides that I just took care of the other kids in the home and kept the church clean. Then I ran into a bit of trouble, but I managed to get access to stuff that my mother had in storage, stuff she hadn't mentioned in her will. Long story short, there was a lot of old family heirlooms dragged out of storage and into the auction houses. About the only things I kept were a real fancy sword and this."
She pulled a silver crucifix on a chain out from under her thick jumper.
"You got any mementoes of home?"

"Huh, that's one hell of a tale." Rust honestly complimented, kind of thrown off by the strange occupation. "That's actually kinda cool. Sounds morbid on my part for saying that but well, at least it's different from stocking shelves at the nearest supermarket, right?"
Tugging at his pocket, a white bandanna soon found it's way into Rust's hand as he showed Gabrielle.
"This is mine. Took it off for now cause I don't want it blown off by the sea breeze but this thing's been with me for a long time now. Mom gave it as a joke when I was in my 'white boy gangsta rap' phase"
He punctuated the phrase with the bunny ears motion. He also looked slightly disgusted with himself, though more comical than serious.
"Still, grew out of that relatively quick, but it's helped out with work and what not."
He shrugged.
"I realise it's not as flashy as a sword or valuble as that little pendant but...hell, it's mine."

"Well, it made sense since the home was right next to the graveyard, what with being part of the church and all. I wasn't trying to be creepy, it just happened that way." Gabrielle said, aware of just how deranged she was beginning to look.
She looked him up and down incredulously, then snickered.
"You were a wigger?' she laughed, a strong, hearty chuckle of a thing. "D-did you do gangsigns?"
She made fumbly little mock 'gangsta' signs at him, then did her best to put on a straight face. She got as far as "But seriously. It's better than being a guidette." before she started laughing again.

Rust just grinned back.
"I wuz like DJ Rust, yaknow?" he chuckled at her, with a false gangsta accent, sounding like some hooded youth from the concrete jungle of Liverpool. "we wuz blazin' in tha hood and like sum geezers would try an' start wiv us so we'd be al like BLAMBLAMBLAM up in their grill, yousgetme?"
He couldn't do it. Rust tipped his head back and laughed aloud.
"Oh God, I can't keep it up..." he muttered when he got his breath back. "Seriously, haven't had a lot to joke about for a while. Thanks, needed that."

Gabrielle gave him a pat on the back, then quickly withdrew her hand like he was on fire.
"Well, I can see how assaulting people's barbecue cookware would get to you after a while." she said, mock sympathetic. "I still remember the great Cookware War. Ovens and grills left out in the sun, hotdogs left uneaten. Tomato sauce and pickles everywhere."
She put her hand on her chest, looking grieved, "Tragic really."

It took Rust about ten seconds to realise what exactly she was on about for a moment, but when he realised it, he groaned and buried his head in his hands.
"That was horrible. And I love it because you KNOW it's horrible."
Rubbing his face a bit, the mechanic double checked out to the horizon, where he could see the faintest speck of yellow.
"Here we go, look. Captain Birdseye's finally found us a dock." he noted. "Guess we won't be waiting around much longer.

Gabrielle laughed and clapped her hands (as opposed to her feet?).
"I was wondering when you'd get it." she snickered, "I guess that 'magnificent visage isn't conducive to the braining side of thing, huh? Wait, island?"
She sat up straight in the seat, craning her neck.
"Hey, w-would you look at that."
She paused. "Wait, is Captain Birdseye actually his name?"

Rust shrugged.
"I'unno. It was either that or Popeye and Popeye's too badass to be associated with this guy."
Rust pulled out his phone and cursed.
"Still no signal. Guess I'm gonna have to wait til we're actually on land. Sorry Mom." he muttered to himself, before looking back at Gabrielle.
"So...we both know why we're coming here..." he started slowly. "Might as well get it out the way, right? What can you...err, how to put this... What can you do?"
Well, that was inspirational. A true classic. You'll be the next Shakespeare, you twit.
"I mean, y'know, what power do you have?"

Gabrielle twitched.
"That's a bit forward, isn't it?" she snapped, her tone suddenly hostile. "Want to know what colour underwear I'm wearing next, o-or if this is my r-real hair colour?" She glared at him accusingly. "J-just because you're n-because you-"
She halted midsentence, then buried her face in her hands. Her knee started jogging up and down.
"S-sorry." she said, muffled. "I-I-I'm not used to talking t-to other people with powers."
Well, fuck. And the conversation had been going so damn well.

Rust held his hands up in showing he meant no harm.
"Woah, okay, I'm sorry." he said quickly, eyes widening at her response. She has a stutter? And her leg's going mad! "Alright, take it easy."
He tried to keep his voice level and calm, more interested in getting her to calm down than anything to do with her powers any more. He didn't get too close, that often ended badly for this kind of situation. Instead, he kept his distance and kept talking, trying to calm her down.
"Okay... I apologise for that." he sincerely admitted. "It was personal and I shouldn't have done it. I'm just used to being fairly open about it with my Mom and kind of assumed every person like us was like that with each other. My mistake."
Looking on in clear "What Do?" mode, Rust just kept trying damage control.
"It's fine. If you don't wanna talk about it, we won't. Sound good?"

She slammed her elbow back down on her knee, took a deep breath and composed herself.
"I'm fine. I'm sorry. I'm f-fine. I'm a telekinetic. Y'know, m-moving stuff with your mind, that kind of thing. Dhamphir too, but mostly telekinetic."
She smiled weakly. "I'm a real mental giant."
