"So, this is the Solstice Academy, huh?" the teen spoke, mainly to himself, gazing up at the building looming up ahead of him. He whistled in appreciation. "Damn thing's got a helluva architect, at least from the outside."
Rusty 'Rust' Kekise was wandering through the straight grass fields, approaching the Academy. He'd just gotten off the boat that had given him transport to the island and first thing noted was that the De Leon Islands were a HELL of a lot warmer than England. Seriously, Rust was used to rain and grey clouds, not sunshine and tropical climates.
Bandanna hanging loose from around his neck, the teen hefted his massive gym bag on his shoulder and dragged the suitcase behind him. He wasn't due for a meeting with the head honchos for another few hours or so, but he felt it prudent to get there early enough to have a decent look around. Better then floundering around like some tourist at least.
Wait...technically I AM a tourist until I get fully signed up...Geh, this crap is confusing.
Sighing and shaking his head at his own thoughts, Rust eventually reached the main steps and double doors of the Academy...
...where he promptly unzipped his laptop, took a snapshot of the front entrance with his phone, sat down on the stairs and opened up an email to his Mom.
Mom,
Finally got here. Place looks good. Too hot to type out full message. Will give full details when settled in dorm later. Attached is pic of the place. Hope things are going well!
-R
Relaxing back a bit, Rust just had a general look around, still seated on the stairs.
"Could get used to this, I suppose..." he grinned to himself.

Ace just left one of her lessons with Mrs. Zede, one of the ones she usually took in order to improve, or at the very least provide, her basic education. She had checked the door to make sure the halls were empty before exiting the room, and had sneakily snuck down the hall, heading for the great outdoors to freedom, where no one could say a word about anything that happened in the past hour.
Then, when she reached the main halls, she realized that there was a major flaw in her plan, and that got her heart racing and adrenalin kicking in. There was a guy on the stairs. Surely, Ace thought, he had seen all that shit, and had now condemned her with his thoughts. This had to be taken care of. Crazy Ace was switched on.
She stood behind the door for a good minute, just looking out occasionally to see if he was still there. She hoped that he might disappear soon but after not too long realized that he was gonna be there for a while.
Maybe, Ace thought to herself, It'd be best to just confront it, threaten him a bit, shake him up a little, then walk away without any cares in the world. Ace liked her idea, and she prepared herself.
Confidently, she opened the door of the main building and walked out. Without a thought or word she took a seat right next to the boy and pulled out her pack of cigarettes. "You're going to need this kid." She said to him, offering him one. She gave him a look that said that if he didn't accept the smoke, then there would be a problem.
She swung her bag around her to her lap and started to open it, taking out 2 things that would confuse and distress the boy. The first one was a pack of cards. The second was her bright shiny metallic pistol, the metal of the gun catching the light as she transferred it from her bag to her pocket. Next, she grabbed a lighter and lit her cigarette, then handed it to him to light his own, glaring at him as she did so.

Rust honestly hadn't noticed the girl until she sat right down next to him. Turning and expecting a greeting or something, he was instead surprised to see a cigarette shoved in his face and a glare that said "Take it or die."
He took the cigarette.
Without another word, the girl then took out a deck of cards, which brightened the boy's day immensely. He was decent at poker and blackjack, maybe this was her way of saying Hi?
The gun gave an altogether different reaction.
SON OF A BITCH! A GODDAMN GUN?!?!?!
Outwardly, he tried to keep his cool.Maybe this was a rib of some kind? A practical joke? Well, wouldn't give them the satisfaction. He'd play their game.
The lighter being jammed in his face though. That was irritating.
"I've given up." he responded to the unasked question, sticking the cigarette in his pocket to get rid of later. "Tried it for a year, decided to quit."
His eyes flicked to the gun again.
"Y'know, there are better ways of saying hello. Preferably without waving a gun about. Deck of cards was a nice idea though. Bring along a couple of six packs of Coke and you might have me for a day or two. As it stands, Lil Miss Billie Badass, I'm guessing you don't like me very much for some inane reason."
He faced her fully, putting his laptop away in his suitcase.
"Alright, fine, I'll bite. What are we doing here?"

Ace watched satisfied as he took the cigarette. Well right, now the peppering up was done on Ace's account. She figured that's all anyone needed to get on one's good side. Next she needed to get on his bad side and that's what the gun was doing. It was all so going according to plan.
He seemed to brighten up whenever she brought out the playing cards. Well he was happy for now, he seemed to like them. Just wait and see what she was capable of.
He said then that he had given up smoking. Ace gave him a curious look, "Why'd you try to quit??" She asked before immediately regretting the question. After all, she knew how hard it was. She also knew that it wasn't as bad...
"There are better ways of saying hello. One of which is actually to say 'Hi', but no... That's not what this is about..." She replied simply, tilting her head to him. She wondered how much he had seen, if he had seen anything. Was this fair? no. Did Ace care about that? Not at all.
She was with him until the word 'coke'. Aw, how cute, she thought to herself with sarcasm, 6 packs of coke.
"No boy, I'm not your biggest fan at the moment." She lit and smoked some of her own cigarette gratefully, and requested with a hand motion the one she had given him back, if he wasn't going to smoke it.
"What we're doing here... is You are going to tell me what you say in there... and I will tell you if you get to keep that knowledge. Okay? You with me?"
She rest the cigarette in her mouth as she pulled out the playing cards. This was part of her demonstration, her threat. "Pick a card" She said with the cigarette hanging from between her lips.
She fanned out the playing cards, shuffled them like a casino player, and then fanned them again.

Handing her back the ciggie, Rust shrugged.
"Mom caught me and asked me. I'd do anything for the woman, so I did my best to stop. Was tough as hell, but just about managed it."
Seeing her take a drag, he steadfastly tried to ignore a few lingering pains. He almost took the cigarette back for a moment, retracting his hand slightly before finally pushing forward and placing it in her hand.
"And, to be honest? I ain't getting you completely, but what the hell, I'll play along."
His eyes once more flicked to the gun. She hadn't used it, hell, hadn't even drawn it before she sat down next to him. And she had come from behind. That meant if she wanted him dead, he'd be on the floor bleeding out already.
Time to play The Game....Muahahahaha...
Nodding at her request and the voice of Lemmy Kilmeister and Motorhead ringing in his head, Rust selected one of the cards.
"Do I look at it yet?" he asked, keeping the card facing the floor. "Not much of a game if I don't know the rules, right? And not as fun if I mess up the first few times."

Ace gave a wide half-grin when he said that giving up smoking was tough, "Oh you have no idea." She said with a dark note in her voice, taking another drag, thinking of rehab.
Ace shook her head at him, "Yes you read the freaking card, just don't show it to me." She said frustrated already. Ace wouldn't ever be the teacher type, she didn't have the patience with people.
She noticed how his eyes kept glancing back over to the gun. She kind of like that. It made her happy to know that he was still freaking out slightly about it. She still had the reigns of this conversation.
He didn't get her completely? Well, that would have to change wouldn't it. Ace looked over to him, making eye contact, her own eyes were a steel blue-grey colour, that looked as though the vibrancy of them had been washed out years ago.
"Look." She said somewhat forcibly, "What did you see, roughly five, maybe ten minutes ago? When you looked down into the building?"
And she didn't even know yet that he had taken a picture of it, and sent it to someone.
Ace would have been mortified. After all, she would have been caught out taking classes in basic learning. The gun would have been put to use.

Nodding, Rust read the card. Guess this one was the testy type. The teen thought it prudent not to push her buttons just yet. After all, freaking gun right there. Still, he'd keep going along with this. She seemed interesting to say the least.
Jack of Diamonds, huh? Sweet. That's normally high enough to be good.
Keeping the card close so she couldn't see, he arched an eyebrow at her probing question.
"What I saw about five minutes ago? Just the Academy. Was sending a pic to Mom to let her know I got here okay and that the ad she got wasn't BS. I know, sounds stupid and childish but she's alone back there, so gotta assure her she's not lost me forever, right?"
He looked a little confused at her. It wasn't illegal to take pictures of the place. Hell, his mother had received a goddamn ad for the place. If it meant that much, he'd delete the picture. Still, he wasn't sure why she was so bother...
He suddenly grinned.
"Oh..." he nodded. "So, you did something you consider embarassing and were wondering if a newbie such as me saw anything to try and save your 'cred', am I right?"
A small gleam was in his eye. So he wasn't just being targeted randomly by the strange girl. There was an agenda here and it was painfully obvious now. After all, she seemed the type to just completely ignore someone if she didn't care for them. But she couldn't risk The New Kid seeing anything. That'd be catastrophic!
For her, at least. Your move in the game, Lil Miss Badass.

Ace closed her eyes for a moment and felt around her mind for her power, ah there it was. 52 cards in a deck. Basic probability that any one that she would randomly call out would be obviously 1 out of 52. She made it 1 out of 3, without much effort. "It's either Jack of Spades, Jack of Diamonds, or the 10 of clubs..." She said randomly. "However..." She pushed her power again, "It's Jack of Diamonds."
"Now," She was planning on making this a demonstration of her power. She grabbed the card off of him and looked at it, "See? Now," She started again, pulling out the gun from her pocket. She turned the safety off. She checked to make sure it was loaded.
Then, she tossed the playing card into the distance, putting the right swing onto it to make it go far. She pressed her power some more, making her luck greater and greater... Then she pointed the gun forward at the card and shot. The sound was a loud enough to leave a ringing in her ears, and the backlash of the fire was enough to make Ace nearly fall back if she hadn't properly positioned herself.
The card was jerked another foot or two, and came falling down with a hole clean through it, nearly shattering it in half. She'd put some tape over it later.
Looking over to Rust she gave a dark half grin, "That was what I wanted to show you... So you took pictures?... just of the outside..."
Realization started to dawn on her face. Firing the gun had taken out a lot of stress, if Ace was to be perfectly honest. Things were a little bit clearer now. "Oh for fuck's sake...." She said suddenly, "You didn't see anything, did you? Really? So..."
She turned to face him, as though he had done this intentionally against her, "This was just a waste of time?" She didn't comment on what he said about 'cred', because that really wasn't what she was worried about when it came down to it. It was more about her personal dignity.
Giving a long sigh, Ace turned the gun back on safety and packed it back into her bag. She pulled out a bag of doritos and took a drag of her cigarette, "God damn it..." She said, offering him some. She glanced over to him then, "No harm no foul." She said simply, not asking it as a question just making a statement. She offered him some doritos, since he didn't smoke.

Rust let the whole scene play out. His eyes widened as she correctly called his card.
Oh...that must be her power! She's telepathic or something?
This would be proven wrong when she took the card and flung it into the air. The gun was raised...
HIT THE DECK!
Not diving to the floor, but at least raising his hands to cover his ears, Rust braced himself and still was nearly deafened by the gunshot.
"Eh...?" he asked in response to her question. "No, of course I bloody didn't. I only just got here! That's what I told you earlier!" he muttered, rubbing the side of his head in irritation.
C'mon. She probably got freaked due to something she obviously doesn't want to discuss. And she's put the gun away. That's worth at least the benefit of the doubt.
Though if she wanted to show off...
Seeing the card flutter to the floor, hole still smoking slightly, Rust concentrated. With a whisper of air, the Astral Arm appeared over his right arm and with a swing of his arm, it snaked out, stretching at high speed before it snagged the card out of mid air. Reeling it in, it deposited the Jack of Diamonds into his regular open palm and handed it back to her.
...ooh, doritos.
"Okay, see, this is how you say hello to people." he grinned, eagerly accepting her offer and taking a few of the crisps. Such a simple delight in life. "And yeah, no harm, no foul."
After munching a bit, he dusted off his fingers and offered a hand.
"Rusty Kekise. Call me Rust please."

Ace gave an exasperated sigh whenever he explained once again that he hadn't seen anything. Against her doubtful judgements, she found herself believing him.
"Great... No actually, that is good news..." She said, finding the positives of this. No one had seen her after all. Really, this was something to celebrate.
She slouched into her seat on the concrete step. Interested, she watched his power, with the arm thing.
"Huh, that seems pretty nifty." She said with her eyebrows raised in a bit of surprise. She took back the card and observed the face of it. One of the Jacks seemed to have lost his face. Worse things could happen. she figured.
The girl took another smoke of her cigarette, seeming to almost hoard it. There were only 3 left now in her pack, and she was gonna savour them.
She grabbed a dorito or two herself. Then, she shook his hand quickly, "Ace." She responded simply, not having the best etiquette in the world by a long shot. "Rust. Huh, Nice name." She said, actually happy to find someone with a name she could actually remember easily enough.

"Thanks, not often people say that. Nice to meet you, Ace. Next time, Doritos first, gun second." Rust grinned at her.
Ignoring a few pangs in his gut as Ace continued with her smoking, Rust tried to fight them down with a few more of the cheesey snack. He didn't mind her smoking but it was still a temptation every now and then. Guess it wouldn't fully go away.
"And yeah, it is kinda useful." the teen admitted, dismissing the Arm with a flick of his wrist. "Does get irritating when you're trying to get some sleep though. Having something bright blue and glowing next to your face ain't exactly what you call mood lighting."
Leaning back a little to relax, loosening the bandanna around his neck a little, Rust looked over at Ace.
"So, you been here long? What's it like here?"

Ace shrugged at him mentioning that the name 'rust' generally wasn't liked. To her it was easy to remember, and that was enough to constitute a good name. She liked single syllables anyway, there was something more laid back. That and she had grown up around people called 'Will' and 'Rags' and of course she had a true appreciation for the nickname 'Ace'. What wasn't to like?
She rolled her eyes, "No shit, it was... nothing, don't worry about it." She said in reaction to him telling her the order of which to bring out first. She had considered going the extra mile of explaining, but then realized that it would make her entire exercise pointless.
"So you can't control it then I'm assuming?" She casually grabbed another dorito and chomped on it for a moment, then continued, "At the same time though, I mean it's like having one of those awesome grabby sticks that you can get at dollar stores with you all the time- and if that's not convenient I don't know what is." She said with a half-grin.
Then Rust asked her about Solstice. "Well..." She started, pulling another drag from her cigarette, down to the filter, before tossing it onto the concrete below the steps, "It's alright." She said with a shrug. "I've been here for maybe the better part of a year?... Honestly don't know why I've stuck around so long. I originally came to look for someone, but... That just didn't seem to stick with me... for some reason..."
She shook her head and continued on, "I mean, the food's okay, if you're into the great outdoors, you're in for a treat, and classes aren't that strictly enforced, because they're equally happy with you finding your control over your powers through what they like to call 'personal study'. Handy, nah?" She smirked.
"So, what are you just sitting on the steps for then. I mean, you're already here, what else are you waiting for, hm?"

Well, she seems nice enough once you get past the whole brash exterior Here's A Fucking Gun kind of deal. Not the worst person to meet off the bat. I do wonder where Gabrielle went though...
Feeling the heat a little, Rust shrugged off his white jacket, slinging it over his shoulder for now. Honestly, he'd NEVER been to a place this warm before. Was kinda nice but something to get used to, he supposed. After all, Ace had and she was smoking away like nothing unusual was going on. Her question about the Arm brought his attention back.
"Well, when I'm like this, I can control it. It's just when I get a bit over emotional, it lashes out, starts acting without me telling it to do stuff..."
Rust scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"Like the time I punched a guy's lights out with it. Dislocated his jaw and it barely grazed him. They did not look kindly on that, let me tell you. S'why I was kicked out of school."
Still, he couldn't help but chuckle at the girl's assessment.
"Actually, I have actually used it for that. Always...well...'handy' to have an extra limb that you can dismiss when you need to."
The teen just realised what he said. He buried his face in his hands and groaned.
"I am SO sorry for that awful pun. So, so sorry."
You're a freaking moron. Handy?! That's the BEST you could come up with? C'mon man, we're better than that!
Finally, he seemed to get an answer to his question.
"A year, huh? Man...guess if someone stayed here for a year, it can't be that bad, right? And food's always a good thing." Rust grinned at her. "And hell, the regime sounds decent too. Makes a bit of sense, cause most of the people here would feel a bit hard done by if there was a test and a telepath or something like that was involved. Or an invisible dude. Or x-ray vision."
He realised he was rambling.
"Ah...sorry... Read a few comic books, y'know how it is. Over active imagination sometimes."
Then he got a question of his own.
"What am I doing sitting on the steps? Just relaxing for the moment. My time for a meeting for registration ain't for another couple of hours. Was actually planning on having a look round, get used to the place." Rust explained. "Plus, needed to shoot off an email, so... might as well do it now, right?"

Ace could understand what he was saying about not having the best control over his power. After all, she only learned about her power because it wasn't controlled. For years it was simply there, saving her life. It still did. She was actually quite grateful to have it really. If she didn't, she really would have died years ago whenever she first met Will.
"Fair 'nuff..." She said with a shrug, pulling the bag of doritos to her face and letting the ends of the bag be funneled into her mouth. She chewed with contentment on the salty treats.
She laughed when he told the story. "Nice one." She said with a half-grin, "'d Love to have a power that could do that. Chance just means that it's hard to hit me, and easier to hit you... Nothing solid like that." She said with a shrug.
"Huh it kicked you out of school? Well, I guess that must suck." She didn't really connect with that part of the story particularly. Solstice was the first school she ever went to. Well, she vaguely remembered traces of pre-school...
"Hah. You should be, that pun was pitiful" She grinned, shaking her head, mocking him a little.
She shrugged when he spoke of his overactive imagination, "Whatever. You know, you don't have to apologize, it's kinda weak." She said simply.
"I guess so... There are places... in directions..." She waved her hand about the air to gesture at everything, "Eh... It's easy enough to get used to." She said. She wasn't really one for going into deep details about things if she could help it. If he wanted to know stuff, he'd have to ask more specific questions.

Rust just listened before he understood.
"Oh so your...power thing is manipulating chance then?" he inquired, honestly interested. "That would explain how you managed to guess what card I got. And also explains how you were able to shoot the card in mid air perfectly. You deliberately made yourself lucky or something like that? Or at least just manipulated the odds to near certainty?"
Rust did frown at her reaction to the apology though.
"Ain't nothing wrong with good manners." he shrugged. "Just like to keep my bases covered in case I do actively tick someone off. Besides, whadda I care if someone else thinks I'm weak? Not exactly the most self conscious person around."
He brushed a hand through his hair as he listened to her vague description.
"Well, that was detailed." Rust drawled, more than a hint of sarcasm, before quickly waving off any comeback. "Lemme try again, any places YOU personally recommend I check out?"

Ace nodded easily, "Yup, that's it." she confirmed about her power. "It would explain it wouldnt it," she mused with a smirk, "I guess you're a smart one. Funny how my power explains how my power-demonstration worked." She rolled her eyes, but was mostly just messing with him.
After a moment she gave a bit of a sigh, "Alright alright, yeah. The only problem with good manners I have is that you have to bother preforming them," she began, "when sometimes you really don't give a rats ass." she said with a half-grin that seemed to cover her face the majority of the time. "Nothing 'disrespectful' about it from my side, I'm just not polite when I don't really mean it."
Her personal experience seemed to be that if she had to be polite to someone without meaning it, it meant that she was kissing her ass. Only people she genuinely respected she tended to show genuine courtesy for. It didn't happen very often, and it hasn't happened for a very long time.
"Me? Personally recommend?" Ace thought for a moment. it was hard for her to really think about it really. Where would she want to go on the island, if she first got here. "The Cafe? The Dorms? I tend not to be really that into the scenery, not because it's not nice or anything, but just because there's not much to do out there..." she looked out to said scenery. "You know, I'm sure it's fantastic though, " she paused, 'I mean, for someone that actually has the powers to enjoy it." She smirked a bit. "Like you maybe? What do you say?"

Rust gave a mock pout as Ace snarked at him.
"Alright, laugh it up, ya cold hearted woman." he muttered. "Let's be fair here. It ain't exactly a mainstream kind of power. Not would you would think of straight away, I mean. Mine's kinda obvious in comparison."
Grinning again, he listened to her recommendations.
"Yeah, heard a lot of good things about the dorms here. Apparently, each one's different, which must have cost them one boatload of cash. But hell, let's hope Fate's with me and gets me a decent one. And a decent room mate too. Still, that can be worked around."
The teen shrugged. What happened, happened. No sense in trying to change it, so why bother, right? Just continue on and plow through the difficulty.
"Scenery's that good, huh?" Rust nodded slightly to himself. "Guessed that as much, but you're saying someone with my powers might be able to enjoy it more?"
The hell did she mean by that?
"Meh, why not? I've got time to kill. I'll take you up on your offer then."

Ace shrugged at him suggesting that it wasn't something one would think of right away. "Well, when enough coincidences happen around you, people tend to catch on..." She explained. She remembered when she was told she had a power. It had been someone else's power that recognized hers.
She didn't even know, and had simply believe that it was an outside force of fate that led to everything that had happened. Including such things as walking randomly and going the right way, and being in a car accident that flipped the car into the air and surviving with hardly a scratch.
"Yeah I'm sure it was real expensive." She said simply. "But then again, the gov pays for all that..." She listened to him asking fate for a good roomie.
"I haven't really had a roommate yet. Last year I got by without one, but there is another bed at mine in case they really get pushed for space, I think." She glanced over to her cigarette on the distant pavement, just the ass of the thing. She strongly considered getting out another one, but realized that she didn't have many left. Instead, she started to scratch her arms through her hoody, not even rolling up the sleeves.
"Yeah I was saying that, I mean... For me, all I can do is walk through it without getting mauled by some weird creature. You? Well, you might be able to actually defend yourself and explore a little more than the basics." She explained.
She brought herself to a stand, packing away whatever she had brought out into her backpack again. "Alright then. Pretty sure it's this way," She said casually, beginning to walk ahead...

"Weird creatures, huh? They didn't advertise that on the flyer." Rust replied with an arched eyebrow, before storing that info in his head.
Yeah...we won't be telling Mom that. She worried enough as it was. Telling her this would probably lead to her knocking me out and dragging me back in chains.
"Well, let's hope you're right. I mean, I took martial arts for a year or so, but the Arm kept busting itself out whenever we were practising the harder stuff. Thought it better to leave before I had to explain to a parent why his seven year old was thrown through a window."
He grimaced. Even making jokes about it, he was still irritated that he had to leave. That martial arts class had been fun as hell and it may have actually helped his self control out a crapton. Might have been the reason the arm stopped popping out whenever he got slightly irritated. Nowadays, it was only when supremely pissed off. Or if his Dad was mentioned...
Cool it. He's not here. Mom's safe. It's okay... he mentally told himself, shaking his head to clear his thoughts and drag those unfortunate memories out.
"Anyway, yeah, hold up." Standing up alongside Ace, he summoned the AA to drag the suitcase behind him as he hefted the gymbag on his shoulder. "So, oh lucky one, whereabouts are ya taking me?"

"Yeah, Locals here if you will. It's like... They're called 'leats' or something... That, and ya know, other stuff." She shrugged, once again avoiding the details.
Whenever he said that he did martial arts, Ace turned back to laugh at him, "Seriously? pfft." She shook her head, "I guess with the arm it makes sense and all, but thats just so ridiculous..." She said with a half-grin, shaking her head.
Her expression changed slightly whenever she noticed that talking about it made him grimace. She didn't question it, but stopped talking about it, waiting to change the subject. She didn't like bringing up things that made people awkward. It was uncomfortable.
"Yeah, uh... Well, Soto forest I thought was what we agreed on..." She said, raising her eyebrow that he didn't remember what they were just talking about. "Unless you want elsewhere, I'm cool with that." She added easily.
Her fingers fumbled with the edges of her hoodie nervously, a chain smoker with 3 cigarettes left and no shops to sell them for miles.

"Leets, huh?" Rust asked, obviously getting the wrong spelling in his head. "What, do they talk in 1337sp33k all the time or something? I'll pass. If I wanted to get sworn at by 13 year olds, I'd head to the local high school and just stand there."
He chuckled himself as Ace laughed at him.
"Yeah, I know it sounds stupid. I didn't say I was like Jackie Chan or anything. Just some basic stuff that makes sure my punches hurt them more than me, really. Plus, was good for exercise and what not. Plus, self control. Though you're right. Saying things out of the blue like that is a bit ridiculous. Guess I shouldn't carry half a conversation out in my head." he responded, shrugging as usual, the AA shrugging alongside him with a blue glow.
Rust did a motion that indicated for Ace to carry on.
"You take the lead, Boss Lady. I'm the newbie here after all. Though the forest does sound like a good idea for now."

Ace nodded, "Yeah they're like little weird fish lizard things with people eyes." She explained best she could. Ace wasn't ever much for descriptions. Ace didn't notice any mental spelling errors or anything like that.
Ace shrugged, "I mean it does make sense for your power and all I guess... " I was just taught to carry a gun she considered adding. She held it back though, not seeing any point in saying any more about that.
She just blinked in response to him saying he carried half the conversation out in his head. "Whatever floats, Rust." She said with a small laugh.
He called her boss lady, then, saying she should take the lead. This nearly made her stop in her tracks. "Huh," She said, "Never been called that before."
She thought of Claudia, who she had been looking for for the past few years. Ace's boss lady... Well, she never found her, did she... And since Ace is the only one she knew left...
"Yeah, sure, I'll lead then." She accepted.

Fish...lizard...things? Meh, whatever, I'll believe it when I see i- what am I saying? I have a glowing blue ghost arm carrying my bags whilst a girl who can control the laws of probability is talking about an island that doesn't technically exist with a school that caters exclusively to those with an 'advantage'. I'll believe anything at this point.
Rust nodded at her next statement about his slight training, choosing not to say anything either. No need to elaborate. Besides, for a moment it looked like she was going to add to the statement and by the time she decided not to, a slight awkward silence had passed. No point in continuing that line of conversation then.
He did grin at her laugh though, see, this felt NORMAL. Hell, there were just teenagers getting used to each other and showing him around. If not for the powers, this wouldn't be out of place anywhere in the entire world. Perfect.
He called her boss lady, then, saying she should take the lead. This nearly made her stop in her tracks. "Huh," She said, "Never been called that before."
Rust's eyes widened a bit however as she very nearly stopped at his nickname. Was it a problem?
"Never, huh? You might have to get used to it sooner or later," Rust quipped. "'Specially if you keep taking the lead. But if you want, I'll call you Ace for now. Makes sense for a girl who regularly deals with chance to be named after a card, right?" the teen smirked. "I mean, I'm a part time mechanic with a nickname of Rust. It's like I was written by a 14 year old fanfiction writer. At least I'm not spouting random Japanese whenever it sounds cool."
Nodding at her taking the lead, he just walked alongside, carrying on the idle chit chat.
"So...do you know any other students here? What are they like?"

Ace gave him a curious look whenever he said that she might have to get used to being called 'Boss Lady'. She gave a half grin in response to the rest of the sentence, "Honestly?... I guess I could get used to it... But really, Ace is fine." She assured him.
It wasn't that it was a problem, it was just something that caught her off guard. "Well it should I suppose, that's how I got it." She shrugged. She was fully aware that she just let out that it wasn't her real name, but if he asked, she would simply politely decline. Really, she hadn't given anything out.
"You were a mechanic huh?" She gave a half-smile to his comment about 14 year old fanfiction, not that she really understood what that meant. Nor did she really get all those references to different grade-school stereotypical personalities. However, she laughed as though she did, agreeing.
He nodded for her to take the lead, and she went right ahead, almost timid of the idea at first, but gradually becoming accustom to it anyway. "Other students?" She repeated, turning her head towards him, "Yeah, I've met a few. Well, They're okay. Some of them don't seem to know the boundaries though with their powers. It's annoying sometimes, but you get over it." She shrugged.
She thought to Merman or Siren or something, who she first met on the island. Her eyebrows twitched together in memory of him, as she still felt slightly annoyed at what he had put her through. Then of course there was the health nut, who's name was already pretty much gone from her mind... Maybe it was James or Jack... Jack seemed closer.
"The problem with people with powers," She began, "is that they think they are the shit, and then they want you to feel sorry for them being the shit. Because, don't you know," Her tone, and the look she gave him said that she was being very sarcastic, "It's such a hard life, being gifted."

Rust nodded in agreement.
"Well, the way I see it, yeah, a power can be a hindrance by why not try and turn it into something that can be useful? Of course, that's easy for me to say, when I can just turn it off, or for you when it's got no outward appearance, but hell, people have gotten around disabilities. Why can't abnormal abilities be any different right?"
He shrugged.
"What's happened has happened. Why mope about it unless you have a way to change it, right?" the mechanic reasoned. "Makes no sense sometimes."
He scratched the back of his head at her little grin at his profession.
"Hehe, yeah, last three years or so. If you get a broken oven or washing machine, give me a bell and I'll see what I can do for you. Got some stuff in my case but none of the high powered stuff, so I can't do MASSIVE jobs, but touching up should be alright. If you're interested, that is." Looking around, trying to memorise the route, he just waited in silence for Ace to say something. He'd been badgering her constantly, surely it was time for her to delve into him for a bit.
Though the fact she didn't give me any part of her true name...is a little worrying, but whatever.
