Secernia felt her mouth like cotton, the taste of her gums was raw and dry. Every time she blinked it was uncomfortable, her eyes irritated, one of them red and slightly puffy. She had a bandage over the cut below her eye. She had gotten new glasses since her encounter with Rust. She thought to herself how she really had ought to be more careful. Her actions had been far too reckless as of late. It would be best if she moved to formulate her work better for the future.
She sat on one of the higher hilltops of the island, her knife, knife twisted and bent, in her hand. Her finger ran along the blade slowly, carefully, not intending to cut herself but wondering how long she could continue to play with it before doing so. She liked testing boundaries. She was wearing her bikini top for the hot summer sun, and a pair of denim shorts, and slowly, she felt herself lifting the dull of the knife and placing it against her chest, letting the heat which it absorbed from the sun press against the scar on her chest, part of her considering what it would feel like to open it again.
The corners of her mouth lifted slightly as she looked around her. She thought she could see a familiar figure in the distance. One that she had promised to make forget all happiness. She put the knife away for the moment, feeling a giddy beating of her heart against the golden key placed beside it. It made her feel a little sick, but she liked it.

Rust himself had been wandering the outdoors again. It was weird how he enjoyed the outdoors so much ever since he got here. Maybe it was because it was consistently warm here rather than threatening to rain every twelve seconds like in Britain. Dressed in his still slightly stained white jacket and blue shorts, he decided to go barefoot again and also without a shirt. It was WAY too hot for an undershirt, so he just had his bare chest under the jacket.
And then he saw her. Red hair. Glasses. Bandaged eye. Secernia.
...oh man...this is NOT GOOD. If anyone sees us, I'm gonna be talked about again...
...
...be a man...
"Hey, Secernia?" the Brit called over, walking towards her. He took his hands out of his pockets and held them up as peace.
"I...I know our last meeting was absolutely horrible and stuff. I did something incredibly wrong and it was not your fault in the slightest."
Keep it going
He stayed back from her, not getting too close in case she felt uncomfortable.
"I just wanted to say...I'm really sorry about what happened."
He gently traced his own face where she had slashed out at him in self defence.
"I've been trying to work on my anger issues and stuff, but... I still feel really guilty. I wanted to make it up but... Guess I have to apologise first, right?"

She smiled slightly to herself. Yes it was Rust indeed. That insolent child. She would have words. But first, she hid her smile before he came over. Her eyebrows furrowed in concern and she tensed up, bringing herself to a stand. She took a step back as he approached.
"I... I know that's not why you're really here..." She said, her voice having a slight waver in it, like someone who was afraid, but brave enough to stand up for herself. "You can't scare me, you couldn't keep me quiet..." She grimaced a little and took another step back away from him, turning to face him as he had been coming up from the other side of the hill.
She shook her head slowly, her eyes catching his, her own a dark red color like clotted blood. "I... I think... you shouldn't come any closer. I'm ... warning you.." She said nervously, pursing her lips and fumbling with the hem of her shorts with her hands.
Her eyes caught sight of where the scar on his face should have been but had disappeared, and glanced away nervously, as though looking at him made her feel uncomfortable. She bit her lip and glanced around. At least he seemed to remember what she had told him. The memory seems to still be working but she was interested to hear what else he had to say on the matter.
"Y- you know... I told people what happened..." She said softly, frowning a bit, "You've come to finish what you started... Make me quiet again... haven't you." Her frown deepened as she raised her hand to the bandage at her eye.

Rust winced as she said that. He stopped dead where he was and backed up a couple of steps, keeping his hands up. This was almost as delicate as the Alora situation a week ago, yet somehow worse, since it was he who did this to her. He was confused why she put the knife AWAY though, she acted scared of him but put her only weapon away?
"I honestly swear, I'm not here about that." the mechanic tried to be as sincere as possible. "Honestly, I have no idea why I flipped out that bad. Might have been you mentioning my mom and I just went nuts, I don't know, but..."
...there it is again...odd
"I-I mean, I know you were only trying to help and...ach, god damn it."
He looked away awkwardly. This was really weird to be a part of. He was treading on eggshells near constantly and it was just such a trial to even form the right words in his head.
"I was completely in the wrong and what I did was unforgivable." he eventually managed to say. "You were right, I'm no better than those boys who hurt Alora right now. But I want to be a better person. I don't want to be like my Dad. So...that's why I was here. It was pure luck I came across you but all I wanted to do was apologise."
A couple of seconds of silence.
"I can understand if you want me to leave..."

Secernia watched him lift his hands to the air like someone caught by the police. She squinted slightly at the gesture, as though cautious.
Her eyes sparked up a bit at hearing him talk about her mentioning his mother, or what she had said about being no worse than those boys that Kikime put up to the task. He was starting to remember... She frowned slightly, mind ticking.
"I never mentioned your mother..." She said, eyebrows furrowing slightly and looking a tad confused, "You... you hit me when I went to comfort you because you were so upset... That's when you lashed out... Don't you remember?"
She didn't even use her powers, knowing that at this stage of his remembrance, the memories he was speaking of would be vague at best, and he could easily press them aside as a mix up or confusion.
She gave a small sigh, "I guess..." She looked over, "I guess y-you might have been really stressed... You don't have to leave... if you don't want to... but, you really..."
"You really hurt me, and maybe it was a one-time thing... Just... I was only trying to help..." She said softly, sitting down once again on the grass and drawing her legs close to her.
Another pause occurred before she continued, "... Have you ever hurt someone... before me?" She asked him, seemingly half-afraid to question him on it.

Rust himself sat down opposite her, not moving any more toward her, eyebrows furrowed in thought.
"Yeah...yeah, you're right. Dunno where that came from. Gabrielle thought it might have been a concussion. I'm getting weird images...might be bad dreams. They're kinda slotting in, making me question the events and stuff. It's...Sorry, it's not your fault I know."
Her question made him sigh.
"It's what got me kicked out of school a few years back." The mechanic admitted. "Load of bullies taunting about being different and one waterbomb later, I kinda snapped."
He looked off to the side.
"Yeah, broke his jaw in one go and the headmaster was anti-mutant. Got kicked out straight away."
He didn't meet Secernia's gaze.
"I just came here to learn some more control, y'know? Martial arts was good for a bit, but if it ends up with me doing something like what happened with you, obviously it didn't work out as well as I'd hope..."

Secernia kept herself from smiling whenever he was speaking of having a concussion after the incident. She thought it was positively fascinating what funny things people came up with to excuse their memories. They rarely wanted to believe what they remembered, often opting for what Secernia had told them. It was absolutely delightful.
She listened to him tell his story about the violence in school. She did love hearing people's stories. So much to tell. So many important little tidbits to utilize. She bit her lip a bit, nervously. "I know... what that's like..." She said softly, adjusting her glasses up her nose lightly and pressing at the edges of the bandage below her eye to make it stick. "I often was bullied in school for being different... " She offered a light, timid smile, as though she was trying to accept his apology, trying to maybe even befriend him after what had happened. She wanted to regain a sense of trust.
"Because I can teleport, people couldn't land a hit- well... I mean, unless... they surprise me." She admitted to him, glancing at his fist. "But-... They could use words... Anyway... Point is, I know what it's like..." She said with a soft look.
Is he seriously buying this? This is hilarious.

Rust saw the smile and grinned very slightly back at her. Good. This was good. He'd managed a smile and hopefully this'd head in the right direction. He shifted in his spot on the floor, crossing his legs and sitting up a little.
"Sometimes, we're just not understood, huh?" the mechanic replied to her comments on bullying. "I mean, what we can do is really cool, but they get scared by it and lash out, I think... I'm not sure. Though, your power's infinitely more useful than mine. The teleporting, I mean."
Not sure why I had to clarify there...she only has the one power, doesn't she?...doesn't she?
Rust shrugged.
"I'm...err, sorry for surprising you then." he meekly apologised once more. "It's just... It looked like that Alora girl got bullied far worse than either of us ever did. She was battered and bruised and even had broken arms. It was awful. I lost my rational thought when I flipped my lid."
The Brit sighed and looked sincerely at the red headed girl with a slightly crooked grin.
"If it's alright with you, I'd like to start over? Start afresh? I'll even re-introduce myself. I'm Rusty Kekise. Nice to meet you, please call me Rust."
He gave an awkward little wave from his spot on the floor.

Secernia nodded at his response to the bullying part of the conversation. "People just attack what they don't understand, and like to manipulate what they do..." She said perhaps a tad too easily. "I mean... It's a sad thing about the world, but.. It's human nature, for a lot of people at least..." She said, adding a dash of sadness to her voice.
"Well, you might say that, but teleporting just means that I can run away easier..." She gave a small grin, "You can actually go offensive."
She shook her head, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to keep bringing up what happened... I know now that it was an accident..." She looked over to him with her dark red eyes, "I think I'd like to start over, Nice to meet you Rust, my name is Secernia Grelix." Her eyes lit up in perhaps a slightly mischevious way.
She liked the way this was going. Sure, she would play friends for a while. Just waiting until he let his back face her. He would regret what he had done to her. She would not forget or forgive so easily...

Rust waved her off.
"Don't apologise, we can't exactly sweep it under the rug, right? What happened happened and I've faced up to it now." he assured her. Though he did grin back at her smile and re-introduction.
"Nice to meet you, Secernia Grelix." he laughed slightly. What had he been thinking, whacking this girl? She was completely fine! No wonder she had so many friends, all she was was a sweet, demure girl who just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time saying the wrong thing. It made Rust slightly ill to know he'd caused the injury to her face.
"Hey, look, there's an outdoor restaurant not too far from here." he started. "How about we grab a couple of drinks and get to starting over? Nothing untoward, I promise." he assured, raising his hands again. "Not a date or anything like that, just a Getting To Know Each Other thing. Sound good?"

Secernia wondered if he really thought facing up to it was feeling embarrassed by everyone staring at him and then going up to her after what, two weeks, to apologize. She wondered how he saw himself in a good light at all, yet he seemed not to have too much about the situation bothering him. Not anymore after getting the apology off his chest though. She wondered how for the last while he had managed to not even think of coming up to her to apologize, despite the memories of him being a horrible human being at their peak at the time. Funny how hypocritical the boy is... She thought to herself.
She gave him a small smile at that, "I suppose you're right... " She said about being unable to sweep it under the rug, "You did apologize so, that makes it okay, right?" A tone of innocence was used here. She wondered if that would rack at his conscience at all. If he really had one.
"Huh, oh you're inviting me to eat?" She repeated, seeming to consider the option for a moment. "Well alright, that sounds really lovely." She smiled warmly. She laughed at the way he tried to reiterate that it wasn't romantic. "I am sort of thirsty..." She admitted with an almost devious tone.

He slowly shook his head.
"Not yet, I'm afraid. Sorry's the hardest word to say but it means nothing if you don't act upon it, right?" Rust replied to her innocence. "Need to make sure I don't do the same thing again. Or at least try harder in that regard."
He didn't feel the need to say WHY he was trying so hard to make himself better. Telling Secernia that may not be the best cause of action. He didn't have an excuse really.
"Man, I really should have tried to find you earlier, but I just worried you'd think I'd try to attack you again or something stupidly violent like that." the mechanic admitted."Which was the furthest thing from my mind, but, well... I doubt your friends would have let me see you either."
Rust perked up at her admitting she was thirsty, however.
"Great stuff. I'll buy first round, okay? Only fair. What's your poison, Secernia?"
He moved to stand up.

Secernia listened to his little spiel bout sorry being the hardest word to say. It's easy if you don't mean it. she would have corrected him, but she held her tongue. He continued to say that he should have looked for her earlier, but was worried for himself. "My friends just like to look out for me is all, I'm sure you can understand that..." She explained.
"Well, What made you think that you'd attack me again? I mean, you said it was because of how frustrated you were last time, right?" She tilted her head, somewhat curious as to why he would make that assumption. Perhaps he's more of a loose cannon than anticipated... She considered. How exhilarating.
A small smirk showed at her lips whenever he perked up at her comment. Like a little puppy... He didn't even catch it, stupid boy.. She mused inwardly. She nodded with a smile, "Well alright, I suppose I can't say no to that kind of chivalry, can I?" She said playfully, swiftly drawing herself to a stand.
He asked her about her preferred poison. She blinked, considering, smile growing at the corner of her lips. "I've made it a habit not to drink poison, so I think some simple lemonade would be... refreshing." She smiled. "Yourself?"

Rust nodded.
"Course I understand it. I would have done the same in their position. And, well... when my emotions get heated, the Arm lashes out by itself sometimes. I think meeting up with you, especially if your friends were throwing accusations my way? No matter how true they were, I would have felt a bit cornered and I didn't want the Arm hitting someone else or worst of all, you again." he explained, pulling himself to his feet.
He blushed a little at her calling him out on his chivalrous nature but smiled regardless.
"Hehe, thanks. This is more what I'm normally like, I promise. Not random rage monster."
Well, now you sound like a dork.
Still, the mechanic laughed at Secernia's little joke.
"Lemonade's fine. I was going to grab a Coke or something like that, but what the hey, s'all liquid. Might as well have a lemonade too, right?" the Brit decided.
The only problem now was that the way to the cafe was behind Rust, so Secernia would have to walk towards him to get there. He hoped she still wasn't too bothered about the space issue after his apology.

Secernia gave him a nod of understanding at what he was saying about feeling cornered if she had been near her friends. Coward. "That's alright, I get it..." She said in a calming manner, "I'm sure you wouldn't hit me again. Surely not..." She gave him a slightly uneasy look, "I mean... You wouldn't." She repeated, as though telling it more to herself than verifying it with him. A tone of fear could have been picked up from her words.
Secernia was a good actor. "You know... You should really stop trying to defend yourself. Actions speak louder you know... And- I mean... You haven't been doing horribly... today that is." She said, continuously editing her words.
She laughed a bit that he decided to get the same drink as her. She legitimately found the idea entertaining. She knew the way to the Cafe, so began walking towards him nervously, nearly pausing before him, "Uh... excuse me... It's that way, right? Are you... not moving too?" She asked, raising her eyebrow at him, staring him dead in the eyes with a slight hint of coldness to her gaze, mixed with immense interest in the boy. Her expression lifted into a smile that would seem genuine, "Come on, let's give this introduction another shot, right?" She grinned.

Rust shook his head.
"I wouldn't. Not again. I promise" he assured her. "My mind's a lot clearer now and this whole incident has made me ultra careful about my anger issues anyway."
The mechanic awkwardly scratched the back of his head after she told him to basically stop talking the talk and start walking the walk. She had him dead to rights there.
"I suppose you're right...again." he chuckled. "And thanks for saying I'm doing better today. That was kinda the whole point."
He was slightly taken aback by the cold stare as she approached him. He felt like a target or a piece of meat for a second before she smiled again. A shiver ran down his spine, but that had to be from nerves about making sure he didn't screw up again, right? Yeah, had to be.
"Let's, Miss Grelix." he grinned back and with his hands in his pockets, began to walk with her to the Cafe.
