"If I am cooking, you should know better than to put things near my mouth." Jacob said, mild, as he sauted for a moment, then added garlic and red pepper. Once the garlic began to brown, he added the shrimp and poured the wine atop of it, then set to stirring. "At that point, reflexes take over, and it is all about what I can get into my gob and chew."
He spread the shrimp out to boil and turned back to Sidra, raising an eyebrow. "Yes. Ace, though her name is technically Julia Dale . . . and I would prefer you not inform her I know that name. I have yet to use it with her. She did not learn to read or write for a very long time, I believe - there are learning books scattered all over the apartment, and she tries to hide them from me."

Sidra let out a groan as she watched the food boil to the point of perfection. She tried to hide the fact that she was about to drool from the smell. "yeah, well im just keeping you from eating before me" she beamed at him.
Sidra let out a laugh that sounded like bells. "Thats so cute!! aww, she's too proud to admit it" she gave a goofy grin and then looked at Jacob and tugged on his shirt. "Ehe, your like a big care bare aren't you" she looked up at his eyes, They seemed blue and endless like the open sea.
Sidra gave him a thumbs up as she grinned at him. "Yeah, i wont tell, your secret is safe with me!" her arms stretched up over her head. She let out a loud groan as she stretched out the rest of her body like a cat.

Jacob snorted. "Like I would shortchange starving half-naked children on my countertop." he answered, and flicked Sidra's forehead gently with a finger, as he flipped the shrimp and evened the boil. "There is such a thing as common charity, after all."
He leaned in just a bit and scooped Sidra up, cradling her against his chest with one arm. "Aa." Jacob agreed. "I have always, always been a family man. Wherefore my blood goes, so shall I. So I have chosen." He smiles wryly down at Sidra. "Of course, blood has a rather looser interpretation, since my arrival at this island."
The shrimp finished cooking evenly, and Jacob removed them from the pan, adding parsley, black pepper, and lemon juice, and then tossing the entire arrangement with one hand - the other still cradling Sidra without much effort. "Give it a moment to cool, and then you can eat." he said indulgently.

Sidra was rubbing her forehead when he literally scooped her up. Her face flushed for a moment but she ended up smushing her cheek aginst his and rubbed him like a cat. "mmmmm" she hummed, resting her head on his shoulder .
She watched amazed that he had such skill with skillettes. Her arm snaked around his neck for support. "are you gonna sit me in your lap and feed me too? " she asked with a hent of scarcasem. But Sidra soon but back her words, he would be baldy enough to do it..
"yeah yeah yeah, yummy shrimpies!" she sang wiggling in his arm. "it is the greatness of the action grandpa food!"

"You can feed yourself, waif." Jacob said, amused, and nuzzled against Sidra, content in the physical contact. His native culture dealt little in personal space - the transfer to England, with it's foot-wide barrier between people, had been harsh. This was truly nostalgic. "But otherwise I am little opposed to serving as chair. You might not reach the table otherwise."
He switched the shrimp over to a plate and carried both girl and food over to the nearest table, sitting down in a chair and depositing Sidra atop himself. "Eat." he said, repressing a smile. "Or shall I have to commandeer that duty as well for you?"

Sidra puffed out her cheeks when he said that she wouldn't reach the table." I would too!" here face flushed, she wasn't that small was she? Sidra took in her surroundings. She was being held in one arm of a man who was tall but a head under her brother. Ok, she was tiny.
She let out a squeak when she wad dropped on to his lap. Did Jacob not realize she was 19? Well then again he was over a hundred. She wined when he said he was going to eat her food. "No! I'll eat it!" she wiggled happily in his lap when she took the first bite.
Sidra was on cloud nine, it was fantastic and Sidra now wanted to take a bath in the food. That would be wierd. She took another big happy bite. "is so good jake!" she exclaimed leaning back in to him as she chewed her food.

Jacob snickered and relaxed, letting Sidra eat without aggravating her. "I am glad my cooking is up to par." he replied, and leaned back into the chair. "How have you found this Academy so far? I have not gotten much of a flattering impression yet, although that might be because I spend so much time in the underpinnings of it."
He considered. "And avoiding people in general, I suppose. I do not think much of lying around. I attempt to always keep myself busy."

Sidra picked up her food and gobbled it down. As she was chewing with a full mouth she looked back at him. It took a few moments till she responded to him. "um, actually, a few people that I met in the beginning are not here any more..." she wonderd about them at some point. She wasn't sure what happend to them or where they went.
Sidra gave a smile to him and rubbed the back of his head. "I don't know, most people are nice here, but people don't like my little brother too much" she nodded and leaned close to the table for more food. After a few moments she had an empty bowl and was completely satisfied and stated.
She gave a goofy grin and rubbed her tummy. She layed aginst Jacob rubbing his head. "good food" she purred. "but about the school as whole, I like it they have good college classes, and jubil is doing better here." she nodded

Jacob's mouth pursed, but he did not comment on the missing persons, not yet - that was a personal suspicion, unsubstantiated as of yet, and it wouldn't do to alarm Kuu unnecessarily. "I would not know either, as I have had little time to acquaint myself with my classmates." Jacob noted. "I can ask around though, if it would comfort you. Knowing the nurse as I do, it should be simple to find out if they were withdrawn for medical reasons or were simply sick."
"Jubil is your little brother then, I take it?" Jacob asked, and poked Sidra in the side gently. "Is he even tinier than you? I can certainly see how that would cause problems."

Sidra gave a shrug looking up at him. " you don't have to go through the trouble" she smiled to him sweetly. "No he isn't tiny at all," she turned around till she was facing him. Her legs on eather side. "hmmm. Jubil is about six inches taller than you and a deal brodder..."she thought about her hulking thirteen year old brother. He had a bad look and an even worse personality.
She soon frouned and wiggled away from his prodding finger. "whydaya keep pokin me!" she wined with puffed out cheeks. With her small hand clutched aroud his finger she began prodding him with her own free hand "take that! Aaand That!" she said as she half way tickled and poked him.
All of a sudden she felt something break, or at least lose its connection. She looked at him, she had forgotten what she was doing. Why was she on his lap, she knew him but how... His name was Jacob... she knew his name? Sidra put her hands on either side of his face studding him. "why am I here? " She asked him completely on the verge of panic.

Jacob watched Sidra attempt to poke him, highly amused by her efforts. Unfortunately, he wasn't ticklish in the slightest where his sides were concerned. His feet were a little more prone, but he had no intentions of letting her discover that. "He sounds huge." Jacob commented with a blink. Few people were ever larger than he. "I would bet bunk beds were right out for you two growing up, no?"
However, when Sidra blinke and started to have what looked like a panic attack, he held still and let the girl inspect him. "You are enjoying my excellent cooking and talking with me about family." he answered, patient. "You also started to teach me some foreign cuisine, but I was unfortunately most distracting."

"Cooking.....family..." Sidra rolled the words in her head. She felt embarrassed, had she really just blanked out on what they had been doing. "distracting." her hands slid from his face to his shoulders. Her eyebrows were still knitted tightly togeather. "we weren't planning a family were we?" she asked him consern over her face.
"because that wouldn't be fair to the kids..." she nodded. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I don't meen to" she mumbled. "um I have to get that book, it's a book with food..." she stared at him for a long moment thinking on where she put the book it was some where.
Sidra just sat there on top of him. She didn't know what to do now, she still felt lost and began to just play with the collar on his shirt. "I'm sorry" she mumbled.

Jacob blinked, and his mouth opened a bit.
" . . . No." he said, finally, a roll of laughter rumbling through his gut. "No, no. I - suppose I can see how you came to that conclusion, but I can honestly say I have not yet thought about settling down in this particular lifetime."
Jacob shook his head, dark hair flapping from side to side with the movement, and ruffled Sidra's hair affectionately. "You are very wise for your age." he said. "And, at some point, you will make a fine mother, whether to your own children or some unlucky neighbor's that does not have an uncle at hand to spoil them. But I have no plans to be a young father again so soon. It would be a careless thing of me to do."

When Jacob finished talking she let out a sigh of releaf. " oh thank god," her body relaxed slightly " I heard talking about family and I got scared." she laughed, thinking about her own miss thinking. " the only time I hear about family is when my grand dad asks me if I'm dating any one. How I have to carry on the name... Bla bla bla"
She eyed him with a pair of sqints, " how old do you really think I am? I know you see People as kids and all but at what point would you recognize them not to be?" at that moment she realized what a horrible question it was and quickly hurried her face in to his chest.
She should probably run away now, to keep her from further embarasment

Jacob snorted. "I remember doing that to my children as well, but as the average age of marriage was fifteen or so, I did not have to encourage much. They were plenty eager to get into trouble on their own." He paused and cracked a smile. "Except Celiadora, she stayed single all her life. Dedicated botanist, never much interested in anything else. I tried not to bother her about it."
Jacob leaned back in his chair and stroked Sidra's hair as she curled away from hi gaze. "It is an individual thing." he said after a moment. "There are some that grow as quickly as girls in my own time. But this new age encourages a certain level of childishness, so . . . I suppose seventeen or so? Certainly, that is the point at which one is allowed to make their own stupid mistakes."

She lissened to his insides as he talked. How his voice would rumble through his chest. "fifteen is far too young. I'm almost 20 and I can't even fathom how I would be if I was a fifteen year old bride" she mumbled. The feeling of his fingers through her hair made her hum. His hand was easily over her tumor, maybe he could make it go away...
"besides it's easier for me to act childish, with my size and face people expect me to be like that. So I'll just give them what they want to be happy" she nodded, it soon turned in to her nuzzling his chest. "it's better than them feeling bad or sad or frustrated." Sidra then bit back her words too heavy. she thought.
"because I can grant wishes and that makes people happy." she gave a smile, it was a strange one full of the things she wanted to hide from the world. Sidra was glad that he couldnt see her.

"Harried and sleepless." Jacob advised. "No one experiences their first five-year-old in any other fashion. I would hardly expect you to break that tradition, no matter how fantastic your cooking is. Children wail. It is their nature."
He huffed and started to absentmindedly stroke Sid's hair, an automatic movement left over from decades of motherhood. His other arm draped around the tiny girl's shoulders, enclosing her in the quiet warmth. "I think they would be pleased enough to know you, as I am." Jacob gently chastised. "Just because they expect does not mean you are responsible for granting."
He smiled down at the girl. "I expect you are in rather high demand at birthday parties, then."

In that moment right then, she had never felt so safe. "I think I could tolerate it, besides it wouldn't be my first five year old. Jubil was, I was twelve and grandma was sick, so I took care of him." she scratched her nose and the reached down folding her fingers with his hand that was wrapped about her.
She chuckled lightly at his words. "you sound like an old lady" she said looking up at him right when he looked to her. "I wear a tux and everthing" she smiled before lightly kissing him. She didn't know why she did it, maybe as a thankyou...maybe not.
When she pulled away she realized what she had done and her stomach sank. Well she just blew up that friendship. Her face flushed and she hid from him, trying so hard to burry her seld in to his chest. I should have ran away...

Jacob blinked at Sid. Again. Took a moment to process the soft touch of lips, and finally offered up a tiny smile. "If you kiss old ladies often, Sidra, I will confess to a certain amount of worry about you."
He returned to stroking Sid's hair, patient and - not particularly startled. Ultimately, he chose to not ask.
"That sounds, simultaneously, very troublesome and very interesting." Jacob commented, "Having to be the line between the old generation and your little brother. I imagine they kept you rather busy."
A pause - Jacob gathered his thoughts. "You will make someone very happy indeed." he murmured, finally.

Sidra pulled away and sighed. " no... I dont kiss people, I don't know why..." she grimmanced. Eventually she looked up at him "besides you don't look like an old lady" she retorted. "and not really, after mom and dad died I just took it upon my self to raise him, gran and gran dad were too old to keep up with him"
She waited for him to talk and when he said what he did her face turned bright red. She couldnt explain the feeling, it was strange. "yeah" she mumbled making awquard eye contact and then looking down between their bodies.
"God dammit!" she spazzed at him and pushed at his face " you stupid, charming, overly kind person!" she yelled at him. She was t really mad at him mostly just embarrased.

"Everyone does." Jacob corrected with a faint smile. "Once they find someone they are attracted enough to. And I will point out that I have been, in fact, an old lady. So you have, in fact, indirectly kissed an old bag."
A pause, and a straight face.
"Though if you ever call me that where anyone else can hear - there will be a reckoning."
Jacob leaned back in his chair, going with Sidra's pushes and shoves without any real resistance. "I am quite magical, yes." he agreed. "But hardly enough to invite violence. What, did I turn someone into a newt?"

She stopped her hands now just lightly pushed at him. "no.." she didn't understand the refrence. "magic man, you just turned me in to a toad " she sat up on him. She pressed her lips togeather. Thinking on the sensation of his lips.
Sidra desperately wanted to punch him, well there was another thing but punching seemed like a better choice. "so calling you old bag when we're alone is the only time I am aloud?" she asked giving a wicked smile.
"and I don't get attracted to people" a blatant lie seeing that she might have something for him. At that thought she wanted to hit her self, Sidra got violent when she was flustered.

Jacob snorted, and slid an arm beneath Sidra's legs, lifting her carefully from his lap and placing the girl on her feet beside him. "You are hardly a toad." he stated, blatant fact in his voice, and stood. His joints cracked with the movement, and he sighed, rolling his shoulders.
"Yes, you can call me an old bag." Jacob replied, turning to glance down at Sidra, thumbs sliding into the pockets of his loose pants. "I might even deign to acknowledge it when you do so."
A faint smile crossed his face. "You will." he said simply. "It's simple. One day you'll breathe, and it'll hurt because someone's not there. That's love."

Sidra squinted at him. "that's stupid, if love hurts then why do people do it?" she was actually diverting the fact that she was hurting from love. She had already lost almost every body whom she loved, and soon jubil will hurt just as much.
Sidra looked back up at him and forced a big grin. "what now? Do you want me to show you a Russian dish? Or maybe something from Syeria." she laughed takeing a few steps back. Only lose her balance and fall right on her ass.
"I think.....my feet fell asleep...." she wasn't sure any more, the sensation that many people felt with that association, Sidra felt at a constant. She gave a frown and tried to wiggle her toes. They wiggled and she picked her self back up. "right.... So what do you want todo?" allready forgetting her previous statement about food.

Jacob smiled, wry. "Because after you figure it out, and either admit it or learn to live with it, being in love gives you something true and unshakeable. It's like faith, Sidra. The confidence - the certainty - is powerful."
He knelt and touched her shoulder for a moment, reassuring. "I think, in fact, that I will now turn in for the night. One meal is enough for a midnight snack. But thank you for the offer. I think I will take you up on it, some other night."
He stood up along with Sidra and blinked at her, bemused. "Alright there?"
