Sidra was sitting, basking in the starlight of the late night. Oh there was a bonfire too, it would be silly to read comics in the darkness of night. Also aside the bonfire, Sidra had the capability to e-mitt uva-uvb rays from her skin in the form of light. For this reason she was wearing a see through lace dress with a black bikini under neath.
The lace reached down to her finger tips and past her feet. Slightly Morticia Addams but it still looked cool and served it's purpose. In her hands was an 1980's copy of the Uncanny X-men. She liked reading it because she felt it was like a parallel of her world. This world, actually. Yes, with the rise of Mutants-Powers here, and people having a large feud over them. But she hoped with all of her might that humans wouldn't create massive robots to hunt them down.
Or that they would cause the end of their own world. While she was reading the comic, her hand fumbled around in the sand at her side. It was looking for that large water bottle she brought with her. So far it found the large stack of different comics, her phone, a bag full of beachy stuff and then finally her bottle. She absentmindedly brought it to her lips and gulped some of it down. Later replacing it back in the sand.
She gave a gleeful giggle as she turned the page of the comic.

Sand crunched underneath bare feet, and a tall Mediterranean boy joined Sidra at the shoreline, the white crystals stuck to his toes and ankles.
"I do not see many people out this late." Jacob murmured, and sat down beside her in the sand. His usual attire was forgone in prefence of a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, sleep attire for the modern age. "But it is a more welcoming sight for that."
He granted a faint smile to Sidra. "I have not seen you since the party. Are you doing well?"

Sidra looked over to him and smiled. "Hello!" she greeted him cheerfully. She watched him sit down and they were now eye level, with her small size and his large stature. "meh, the nurse got mad at me, she said a 'girl in my position should not be parting or smoking' or anything fun" she shrugged after she finished intimating the nurse. Sidra looked between them and took a cigarette out of her silver bag next to Jake.
She leaned over and patted his head. "So what did you do with the drunk guy?" she smiled to him. "Because honestly i cant remember much after the big roaring crowd"her smile turned in to a big stupid grin.

Jacob snorted, unbothered by Sidra's habits. "Nurses are paid to think long-term." he replied, poking her gently in the side. "Do not begrudge them their perspective. Just - ignore them. You are clearly talented at this." A cheeky grin.
"As for the party crasher, I distracted him for a little while, then slipped a tranquilizer into his drink." Jacob replied, his voice turning rich and satisfied. "I dumped him in the forest, minus his firearm. Of course, the dose I gave him was good for two days, so he would not be doing much without it anyways. Ace is searching for him now, I think."

Sidra crinkled her nose and snickered. She grabbed his hand as he poked her, moving away slightly. "Well that would have been great if i had long term" she gave a grin. "Don't poke, I'm ticklish" she lied, she couldn't actually feel anything. The damage to her brain made the sensation dull.
Her eyes widened when he mentioned the tranqs and the boy being out for a good to days. She bit back a laugh, because it would seem abrupt to anyone. "Two days?" she asked in a whisper her small hand squeezed his in anticipation. "Oh That's fantastic! Where'd you get a hold of Tranqs at? The nurse has them locked up in the big white cabinet at the top, so i can't reach it." she grumbled and took a drag of her cigarette. "Can i get you anything?"

Jacob laughed and sprawled back in the grass, unshy about getting himself all sandy. "You would be surprised." he said simply. "Life is always, always longer than you imagine. Just long enough to be sweet."
He grinned over at Sidra, his hand turning over to envelop hers, large fingers covering her own. "I make a habit of patrolling the forest and beach looking for anyone that might need help. The nurse gave me a key, because I am trained in first aid and might need the medical supplies to properly treat them." A laugh. "I believe I treated Ser Rags well enough for his problems."
He looked back up to the stars overhead, beaming. "No. In this moment I am content."

Sidra gazed at the stars letting thier small light it and refract off of her glowing skin. The light of her body dimmed and began beaming back in small twinkling patterns. She looked over at him and gave a smile. "Im glad" she nodded, resting her head on the arm of the chair.
Her small hand stuck out of the chair through the hole between the seat and the arm. For that moment she felt safe and calm with his fingers covering over hers. "When did you get on the Nurse's good side" she gave a sneeky grin. "Uh-huh...treated him really well" she snickerd. "Wait, if you work for the nurse then you know? I think she has one of those dispatch look out things on me" Sidra wondered aloud before she rolled her eyes back up to the stars.

Jacob's smile turned a shade wry. "On an island like this, one nurse working alone is sure to be overworked. I stopped by after my hours in the research center and offered to help her out with some stitching and bandaging, along with changing sheets. She seemed to appreciate that."
He squeezed her fingers gently. "And yes, I know. It does not matter much."
A pause and then he huffs in amusement. "So long as you avoid drinking alcohol again, at least. You have a - remarkable reaction to intoxication. And while you are pleasant enough company in that state, I prefer clear minds in my companions."

Sidra let out a laugh, "I know, apparently i cant hold a candle to anything any more." she laughed. "damn, i can't believe i was gone in one shot.." she huffed shaking her head. "Gahhh!" she slapped a palm to her face. "i act like a kid when i get drunk. Its like I'm five all over again" she laughed.
When he squeezed her fingers she gave a hum, it was soft and sweet. "Thankyou"
She looked at him. "How long have you been around to learn how to stitch things up the way you do? How long have you been around to get eyes like yours.." she wondered "cuz man you got eyes like an old man who's seen too much" squinting at him she stuck out her tongue and blew letting out a raspberry.

"It is not a bad age to be." Jacob replied, raising his eyebrows. "You can think, but no one chastises you for stupid questions. Your legs work appropriately and you can explore without falling over every ten seconds."
He cracked a smile afterward, which did not dim at the mention of his age. "I had thought you had noticed. Not many do - either lack of eye contact or attention or personal interaction. The precise reason is lost to me."
He glanced over the sea, and said, "I am, now, one hundred and thirty-five years old. I've raised three families, fought in two wars, and seen an age pass me by. It has been - worthwhile."

Sidra mouthed over the number. 'one hundred and thirty-five' she oggled at him for a moment. "Awsome..." she nodded looking out at the open ocean. "so....you just change after you die, are you kinda like doctor who?" she asked, her habit of asking questions could be intolerable at times.
"No, your Action Grandpa," she started making up a theme for him " Defender of Comic books and Stealer of drugs to deal with party crasher, and he makes fantastic food" she used her tv anchor voice. She let out a laugh wiggling their hands with in one another.
"Also what brings you all the way down here on such a dark cold night"

Jacob exhales, half sharp amusement and half a faint, always-felt bitterness. "Something like that, yes. I just - wind up in another nearby body. I do not know what happens to the person in it. I cannot stop it, and I cannot seem to choose who it is."
He shrugged and gave a little smile up at Sidra. "I try to do as much good as I can, in payment. If I am to be here for so long, I will make every lifetime a contribution to the world. A kinder place, and a better place."
He sat up, brushing sand out of his hair. "I sleep less as I age." he answered. "When I was elderly it was six hours. By now it is something less than four. I think it is a natural process, so I spent the extra time - wandering. Or reading. Whatever takes my heart that night."

Sidra watched him. "it sounds like some form of cosmic joke, or curse rather, did you piss some one off in your first lifetime?" she half meant it to be a joke, but it probably came out more like an accusation. She didn't mean it to so she bit her lips down.
She thought about his sleeping less " Wait, i thought you'd sleep more as you age..." then she shrugged. Leaning over to brush the sand off of his back, she just barely stretched over to his other shoulder. "what ever takes your heart at night, huh?" Sidra looked up at the stars. "so what's taken your heart in the past?"
Just then her stomach let out a loud growl. Her face flushed as she pulled away from him embarrased that her stomach just roard like a lion. "sorry, im not sure of the last time i ate..." she rubbed her stomach.

"I do not know." Jacob said simply. "I wish I did. But I know nothing about it. Why it has happened to me, what is causing it, how it happens - nothing. I am left in confusion."
Jacob released a gusty breath, and gently knocked his head against Sidra's shoulder as she reached over him. "Learning more languages. Reading the old classics of literature. Learning how to tie new knots. Studying origami. Pen-spinning. Puppetry." He laughed. "I have had a long time, and a great many nights to learn a great many things. I wonder if I have reached ten thousand, yet?"
Jacob snorted at the sound of Sidra's stomach and turned one eye on her, patient and gentle as a whale. "I suppose you are hungry, hm? What gentleman could tolerate this?" He stood and offered a hand down to her. "Come. To the kitchen."

Sidra looked up at him with a flushed face. "yeah..OK" she retched up and grabbed his hand. She couldn't help bug giggle at the way he said things. "You sound like Sherlock Holmes on a mission" she beamed, literally shining brightly.
She knew that he could easily pick her up with one swing of his arm. He could carry her off, take care of her like grandma did. She wouldn't have to worry about her brother or the thing in her head. "Oh Action Grandpa and his fantastic food!" she was gleeful and began gathering her things, placing them all in her silver beach bag. "So Where'd you learn how to cook?"
She looked up at him, she didn't even come up to his armpit. Some where around his upper stomach. She grumbled slightly at this but she was short and he was tall, nothing much to grumble about.

"Sir Arthur Conan Doyle." Jacob said whismically, as he pulled Sidra up to her feet and let her gather her things - then lifted her with two arms to place her on a broad shoulder, which bore her weight easily. "A fascinating man in his own time. Do you know he wrote most of the books off the legend of the French detective Vidocq? An investigator of similar skill and intellect."
"I learned to cook twice over." Jacob answered. "Once in Slovakia, my homeland, where I learned all the Mediterranean food styles. Again, in England, where I learned Western. The third time my wife threw things at me every time I got near the kitchen."
A laugh rumbled up through his chest and into Sidra's small body from that thought.

In the moments that it took her to get her things, Jacob easily lifted her off the ground and on to his shoulder. Her face turned red, Yes she was used to riding on people shoulders, and people carting her around. But, this was the first time that she actually fit on only one side of him.
His laughter rippled through her small body filling it with wamrth. Sidra gave a goofy grin as she used the back of his head for support. She laughed with him when he said that his wife used to throw things at him when he got near the kitchen. "Thats so funny, so she never knew you could cook? hmm, Mediterianan and Western, i just know the stuff my grandmother taught me, lets see, there is some Russian disshes, German, Polish, Greek, and Arabic..." she thought about it as she began combing through his hair.
Sidra absentmindly combed her fingers through his hair, she often did this with her younger brother too. She licked her lips with thought "I don't know, just everything, OH, and what is pen-spinning?" she asked bending over to where her face was in front of his, just upside down.

Jacob leaned his head against Sidra's fingers, not at all shy about enjoying the affection. "That is rather a wide range." He noted. "Wider even than my own. I may have to get cooking lessons from you at some point, I would hate to let a potential cuisine get away from me.
He pushed the door to the school open, and ducked so that he wouldn't ding Sidra's head against the top of the door. Then he slid through and headed for the kitchen. "Pen spinning is a strange hobby where you spin a pen in one hand in specific patterns. I will have to show you, I believe."

As they went through the door, Sidra wrapping her self around his head so she wouldn't hit the door frame. When she looked back up to a shinning world of chrome. "Oh! we're in the big kitchen!" she sounded over excited. "Its so industrial!"
She wasn't sure how to get down from his shoulder, so she waited up there. Patiently combing her fingers through his hair. She smiled at the positive affection he gave to the combing. Jubil normally just yelled at her to stop. "Yeah, i can give you some lessons." she laughed "I had to learn at a young age because grandma couldn't see verry well and ended up getting sick and dieing after that. And i come from a long line of everybody and they all have their own food and traditions."
She gave a shrug and looked down at him, smiling "So Mr. Action Grandpa what do you have for today? Oh and yes, please do show me the pen thing because i have no idea what your talking about" She gave a wide grin now.

"Russian would be interesting to me." Jacob said, as he laced an arm underneath Sidra and lifted her from his shoulder, setting her down. "But we will deal with that at a later date. For now we are confronted by late-night cravings, and this is a foe I am long experienced in defeating."
He granted the small girl a faint smile, and then dug into the fridge, coming up with a batch of shrimp, which he opened and set in ice water to thaw. "Does shrimp scampi sound like an acceptable meal to you, miss Sidra?"
"As to the pen trick, I require, shockingly, a pen on hand in order to do such tricks." Jacob said, with a faint shrug. "Preferably Bic, as they are too flimsy for any other purpose."

Sidra gave a childish bounce when he said shrimp scampy. She licked her lips and was easily on his tail. "Yeah, that sounds awsome!" she was famished by now and rubbed her tummy with the idea of on coming food.
"bic pen..." she mumbled and then opened her silver bag. Sidra rummaged around till she felt something small and thin. "Like this?" she asked holing up the bit of shiny black plastic. "im not sure if its a bic, but all pens are that brand right...they rule the pen world" she said handing him the black bit.
Sidra looked around to find a place to sit. There were no chairs so she took a step ladder from the corner. She climbed it to get to the metal counter and sat on it. The chrome was cold on her but and she pulled out a towel, sitting on it. She gave a sniff, her legs hug off the counter not even close to the ground.
"i wonder if there is something in food that makes people tall, because everybody is really tall here." she said sifting in her make shift seat.

Jacob smiled. "Yes, that would do." He takes the pen and set it in his fingers - then it began to revolve, spinning between around around his fingers in intricate, winding patterns. "It is not a particularly useful trick." He admits, "But it is an excellent way to eat time, both in learning and practicing."
With his free hand, Jacob began to arrange the other ingredients he'd need for scampi - salt, garlic cloves, olive oil, parsley, white wine, red and black pepper, and lemon juice. He arranged them in a row, neat and orderly, and glanced back at Sidra. "I do not know - I have not seen many people of my own nationality here, and I do not eat the food here. I prepare my own. The automatically dispensed food is -"
Jacob wrinkled his nose. " - less than pleasant."

Sidra watched the revolving pen for a moment before he started talking about the food again. Her head clicked to his face. "You mean the stuff that comes out of the can, or vending thingy what ever its called." she gave a grumpy face.
"that's like school cafeteria and prison food had a baby....and it died, and was left to rot" she comment thinking about the gray glop they called gravy and mashed potatoes. Or the cardboard that they tried to pass as meat. She reatched up to him, holding his nose between her thumb and pointer finger. "That's why the dorms have those kitchenette things. "
"And what do you mean by nationality, like the Mediterranean?" her head tilted to the side.

"Whatever the proper term is." Jacob agreed. "The food is overprocessed, pumped full of preservatives, and so plastic you could recycle it into two-liters. I uninstalled one of the automatic dispensers the first day and made muffins. It is how I met my dormmate, in fact."
He started a pan on high, let it heat for a bit, then added olive oil and butter to it. When Sidra pinched his nose, he licked her palm without pause, chasing her little fingers away. "I need that to breathe." he said, and poked Sid with the back end of the pen. "Do not close that up, aye? And yes, I mean Mediterranean. I highly doubt there is another Slovakian here, in any case."

Sidra went "ewwwwww" and wiped her palm on his shirt. "yeah yeah, you breath through your nose" she felt the pressure of the pen and squirmed, pins and needles. She watched him start to cook, the smell of the sizzling butter made her groan from hunger.
"MMMmuffins" she mumbled and grinned at him "Oh the Ace girl? the blond one that gave me the pin right?" she nodded, "she seems fun, strange spelling though" she nodded and then watched as he added the garlic to toast in the oil-butter mixture. "its like a strange form of torture"
