Erika sat on one of the rock formations jutting out into the sea, the breeze making her black hair rustle gently. The waves were lapping gently up against it, making a soft slapping noise. Erika hadn't returned home during the summer, but her mom and baby sister had come to visit her. Half-sister. she corrected herself as she stared at the photograph in her hand. Amy had grown a lot since the beginning of the summer. Her whisps of dark hair had lightened to their mothers blonde color, and was now tied in short pig tails. She was blowing spit bubbles in the photo. Erika didn't smile. She wanted nothing more than to detest her little sister... but looking at her now, that was easier said than done.
Shaking her head, Erika placed the picture of Amy behind the letter that came with it and read down, a frown soon forming on her face. Usually, all the letters she received were sent from her mother. This time He wrote her. It took her a moment to control herself, and stop crumpling up the paper in her hands. If it's Sloan thats writing me...does that mean something happened to Mom? Her magenta eyes went sharp. What had he done?! She shook a little as she forced herself to read.
Erika's expressions went from one of anger, to shock, to confusion in mere seconds. She's pregnant again.... that was the first big shock. Erika put a hand on her forehead. Amy couldn't be more than 8 months old, and they were having another child. Well, that wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact the man she was having the children with beat the living shit out of her everyday! Her eyes watered a little. Was she actually going to cry?! No! She's stupid enough to stay with that stupid, woman-beating pile of shit! she raged silently to herself, her shoulders shaking as she cried silently.
There was something wrong about this letter too. Not to tell Mom? She would have though her mother begged him to do this, even after a black eye or split lip. Not only that but, Sloan never once bothered to call her, or write her or hell, even speak to her when she was living with them. Yelling and hitting was all she could remember to do with him. She had the anger problem?! He was still playing that card?! I'm not the bad guy...Im NOT! What...What..
"WHAT ABOUT YOU!?" she yelled out, grabbing at her hair. Her power was fueled by the emotion she felt, and the water around her rippled back against the waves.

My Dear Niece,
Sorry I couldn't make it out to see you during the summer. I was busy at work. Your mother said you are doing well and are enjoying school. I've been told your attitude has improved somewhat too. That's great.
It also has made me think that perhaps, it is safe for you to be around Amy alone. Your mother and I need you to return home shortly. You'll be needed. I am happy to tell you, you will have another sibling soon. We need you to come take care of Amy while your mother rests and takes things easy.
I will require a not from the school Councillor that states you are of sound mind, and have that temper of yours under control. I wouldn't want the law worrying about you living with us.
Oh, and lets not spoil this surprise for your mother ok? Lets keep your homecoming just between us. I'll call you soon.
Love,
Sloan
